The Cape Town Stadium, I think is a good fit for Cape Town. One has a good sight of the ongoings on the field. When full there is a beautiful vibe especially if the team that you support is doing well. I did find the P. A . System can do with a bit of an upgrade. One couldn't hear announcements clearly. I also feel that the "big screens" need to larger. It was quite difficult for a person with compromised vision i.e. a senior citizen like myself who wears specs, to see clearly especially the sport replays. The high cost of food is criminally expensive!!! As a senior citizen on a government pension to have to pay R45 for an ice cream on a stick is downright day light robbery. This item one could buy in a shop at R10. I do believe that whoever is responsible for food and beverage side of running the Stadium needs to investigate and put measures in place to control these costs. Either the stallholders are greatly overcharging and making huge profits in a short space of time or they are forced to charge these huge prices to cover the exorbitant rentals that they are being charged by Stadium Management. This cannot be allowed to go on. On the occasion of the URC rugby final there was a huge crowd of something like 50 000 people. This meant that one had to be in the Stadium at 3 hours before kickoff. Now since one is not allowed to bring your own food into the Stadium, one is now forced to buy food inside same. For a family of 4 (Father, Mother and 2 children) it would cost a small fortune to keep them all fed for 5 to 6 hrs. OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!!! I also felt that as a first time attendee, it was difficult to find the entrance to the stands that we needed to use. There were insufficient, properly trained ushers available. We had to be moved more that once as we had been directed by security personnel to the incorrect seating positions. Very annoying!!! The City of Cape Town laid on transport to and from the Civic Centre at no cost. Very well done. On leaving the Stadium after the event one had to enter the underground parking area then traverse through a tunnel to catch the bus back to the Civic Centre. There were no officials with loudhailers on hand to direct passengers to the correct boarding areas. In a 100m long tunnel where the only movement was forward one felt like cattle being herded to the Abbatoir. It took more than half and hour to get out of same on a stop, start procession waiting for busses to arrive back from their last trip. My great fear was for people who were claustrophobic would be overcome as well as us senior citizens who have health issues could get sick being caught up in that throng. Not a good idea for this system to be used. I do believe that there were and are alternatives but I won't say anything about that. There was not preferential arrangements made for us senior citizens or the sickly. I guess in this case we should just have stayed away.
As a first time user, I don't think that I would want to attend an event of this magnitude at the stadium again. Thank you very much. I sincerely hope that the Mayor reads this review. Signing off along with the great disappointment that the Stormers Rugby team dished up on the night when they were supposed to "MAKE CAPE TOWN SMILE" . Most when away absolutely miserable...
Read moreFirst time visiting this stadium and went to the Calabash festival on 31 January 2024. Lots of seating inside, several security measures in place (perhaps because of the festival not sure if this is the procedure for all other events held here).
I don't know whether the sound issues were because of the equipment used or just the artists. You'll notice on the photos and videos that we didn't have the best seating (221, row 5) but you could still see the stage and it's a festival so you're actually there to hear the music/performance). The first line up started just after 5pm and the stadium wasn't packed because a lot of people actually wanted to just see Maroon 5. So the speakers were bouncing of one another due to the massive space available. However once it was Maroon 5s time to perform (like 10pm) the placed got filled fast and the sound of the instruments was fine. Could barely hear Adam Levine when he was talking or singing. I saw on TikTok that the stage seaters had the same sound problem. Maybe it was his voice which is way too soft for the musical.
The alcohol sold was Klipdrift and cola, Benini, Savanah and Heineken - very limited and it was R60. You got your alcohol served in a plastic cup. Lots og food options available from Steers to long chips and hotdogs. Plenty of vendors walking throughout the rows selling ice cream, popcorn, chips and biltong as well as drinks.
We arrived at 4h30pm and left at 11h35pm. The music played outside of the stadium by one of the tents selling alcohol was better than the actual performers (national and international) who performed.
The ladies bathroom baffled me as the actual wash up room is around the corner from the cubicle. Some cubicles didn't have toilet paper but the cleaners were at least working throughout the night. Lovely views of Table Mountain when you stand outside the stadium.
I can't comment on the parking as there were lots of parking spaces for like R100 for the day (crazy). We didn't pay for parking so hence why I can't really...
Read moreThe Cape Town Stadium mesmerised me from the minute I sat foot in Cape Town. Its Arial views are spectacular and lends itself to a great sporting atmosphere.
But let me start from the beginning. If you are visiting for a major event like the HSBC 7s Rugby Tournament I would advise you to be there early so as to secure safe parking close to the venue. Because I was delayed I had to park about 1km from the venue and walk that distance. This can place a damper on your enthusiasm unless you have great company.
My wife and I walked the distance while chatting and drinking in our surroundings. We saw the Fan park which seems to be a popular place for both sport-lovers and people who wants to bring the kids out for some fresh air. We also noticed an eatery quite close to the venue which we made a note of for next time.
The support staff got us into the venue without hassle, although the requested us to part with any and all edible goodies before entering. Luckily it was only some Coke we still had with us. Inside the venue the Mrs took full advantage of taking some selfies and generously used the costumed fans as props. Everybody was in a good mood and the atmosphere electric. I think it had to do with the fact that the Blitz-Bokke won the Dubai Finals the week before and are currently playing very good rugby.
The marshals were very helpful and efficient in ushering us to our seats, which can be a treasure hunt on your first visit. During the breaks there were lots of stalls to choose from. They sold any take away dishes that you can think of. Of course the organisers had lavish entertainment during the breaks too which helped in passing the time while waiting on the next match. One negative aspect that I experienced was that it took us longer to exit the Stadium than it took us to enter. This begs for...
