absolutely pathetic experience.

First the waiter took our drinks order - he had forgotten 1 of the drinks and when questioned, he said that he thought we were joking as it was a 'little chino' for a small eater in our table of 5.

He then brought it back and we informed him that we want to place our food order, he then asked kindly if he could take 2 plates to another table and then he will come back, which we agreed to because he was honest and it only made sense. Little did we know that 30 minutes later he will still not be back, 30 minutes after he told us he will take the 2 plates to the other table. I then found that this was too ridiculous so I called for another waiter to assist with our order.

The other waiter had taken our order and then our initial waiter had come back and apologised, however it did not seem genuine as it seemed like it was rehearsed or taught to him. She insisted that one of our small eaters was not allowed to order from the kiddies menu, but this was not indicated when we ordered a little chino, nor is it indicated anywhere on the menu. This was beyond frustrating as this individual genuinely does not eat much. The menus should be updated to reflect this.

When we received our order, my meal was incorrect, the menu indicated that I will get a brioche bun, however a normal hamburger bun was brought. The main reason why I order the southern fried chicken burger is due to the bun used. I then told the initial waiter, who brought it out to us, that this is incorrect. He then said that he will call the manager to advise as he is not sure what the issue is. 10 minutes of me waiting and nobody had come to me. I then decided to find someone myself, in doing so, I passed my waiter and he said the guy is come, I asked him who it was, and he pointed to the kitchen manager. When I got the kitchen manager, he said that the waiter had not told him to come to us. I then showed him my meal and he apologised and said that there was an issue with the buns due to load shedding, which I can understand, however I should be informed that the correct bun was not available. I then asked for the correct bun alone, however he brought me an entire new burger.

There were unfortunately just a few too many issues in...

My family and I were extremely disappointment and frustrated with the really poor service we experienced at your restaurant on Saturday evening.

We visited with a child and were looking forward to a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

Our waiter refused to take our meal order together with the drinks. He insisted on getting our drinks first. After a 20 minute wait, our drinks arrived but with the wrong order! At this point we proceeded to give him our dinner order anyway as we had a hungry child and already waited 20 minutes for a simple tea and coffee.

Another 30 minutes had passed and still no sign of our food. Despite being quiet, and all the other customers receiving their food, ours had still not arrived!

On inquiry as to how long the sandwich would take for our child, our waiter then proceeds to another waiter to have a chat instead of checking on our order asap.

After another 10 minute wait, A different waiter comes to inform us that our meal order was not put through and obviously isn't ready.

After WASTING so much time already, and with a hungry and restless child who had already waited patiently for over 40 minutes for a simple sandwich, we asked for our bill and left.

Despite the restaurant not being busy, this delay was unacceptable, especially considering we had a child with us who was growing restless.

We had to request updates multiple times, and the staff (our waiter specifically) was disorganized, haphazard and extremely unnattentive.

The service issues and extremely incompetent staff have really overshadowed any good past experience we have had at this establishment.

As a customer, the least I expect is reasonable waiting times and attentive service, especially when dining with children.

I hope you will take steps to address these issues and improve on the training and quality of your staff to prevent similar experiences in future for...

This review isn’t specifically about this location but about all Mugg and Beans. I was just informed about this policy at this location.

After years of going to Mugg and Beans across the country it was finally brought to my attention by the waiter that the jam and cheese that they always bring yet I’ve never asked for and have never used is an extra expense. I don’t look at the menu because I know that I want a triple chocolate muffin and a cappuccino. After asking that he remove the items because they attract flies he froze and explained that he wouldn’t be able to refund the R10. I was so confused as to what R10 he’s referring to. He went on to explain that it’s automatically charged unless you indicate when placing the order that you don’t want the condiments. When you read the menu it clearly says ADD for R10 not OMIT for -R10 this means I should say that I want it, not that it is automatically included. This is extremely misleading and occurs at EVERY single Mugg and Bean in the country. I can’t believe they have been robbing customers by automatically assuming on our behalf that we’d want extra sugar and cheese on a muffin full of chocolate or on any of the muffins for that matter because the waiters/waitresses should instead be trained to ask if we want it added not for us to have to remember to remove it. Once removed from my plate it definitely did still reflect on my slip which is an absolute scam.

Plus the fries are no longer rosemary fries, they use that awful orange chip spice that all of the cheap eateries use. Honestly if it weren’t for the friendly, accommodating staff I wouldn’t be...

I recently visited Mugg & Bean at Gateway Mall, and I must say it was a delightful experience! I started my morning off with a perfectly brewed cappuccino that was rich and satisfying. The aroma alone was enough to awaken my senses and get me ready for the day ahead. For breakfast, I indulged in their mouthwatering flapjacks accompanied by a side of crispy bacon. The flapjacks were a fluffy and golden delight, with just the right amount of sweetness. Each bite was pure bliss, and the combination of the pancakes and bacon created a satisfying balance of flavors. Aside from the scrumptious food, I was impressed by the friendly and attentive service provided by the waiter. They were knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, with the soothing sound of a nearby waterfall creating a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Mugg & Bean at Gateway Mall exceeded my expectations, providing not only delicious food but also a pleasant dining experience. Whether you're looking for a cozy breakfast spot or a place to unwind with a cup of coffee, I highly recommend giving Mugg & Bean a try. It's a true gem in the heart of the mall.

Good food and great service from the hostess, Ethan (my server/waiter), and Nilpha (the manager, who checked in). I ordered the chicken burger and a slice of carrot cake. 🍔 The burger came with red onions, which I dislike raw and overlooked on the menu, but they worked well with the other garnishings and condiments. The sandwich was tasty. 🍰 The carrot cake was cold, so we packaged it to go. It was a little heavy on the nutmeg (I believe), and strangely, the color changed when it thawed out (it became darker). The taste was sufficient. Not soft, moist & crumbly like the best carrot cakes I've had, but satisfying for a treat.
