As regular patrons of Ocean Basket Gateway, located at Shop G001 Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga Ridge, Umhlanga, my family and I can't help but praise the outstanding quality of food and the overall dining experience we consistently enjoy.

So the overall experience was absolutely awesome. MOST staff are friendly and welcoming - our waitron was DJ with the assistance of Mohammed (with the exception of one who decided to give me a stare down each time she zoomed past -which made it uncomfortable. Ps. I didn't catch her name, but she was an Indian lady, short hair in a pony, and average height )..... We ordered a seafood platter for 2 (as I attended with my partner). The platter was made in abundance of fish, prawn, clamari served 2 ways and mussels.... With have the option of rice /chips as a side. The butter sauce they serve with their dishes are rich and yummy... A great combo with seafood. A word of advice for the novice customer, do not order starters when ordering this meal. It's a meal for 2 , but atleast 3 could eat from it. We took atleast 70% of our meal back home (and it still kept well in the fridge) . The calamari done 2 ways was super amazing. Will defs Re-order and pretty much is the best I've tasted compared to other 4 star places.

Now onto the not so grand parts. We were looking forward to the mussel bowl (starter), and the mussels from the platter.... However. The order that arrived at our table looked almost nothing like what the menu made it out to be.... The mussle beards were out, but the poop shoots were left in. I didn't realise until my second bite and requested for my partner to stop consuming it as well. We did not complain as the staff were pretty friendly, but still not something to be overlooked either. The other issue we had was that the seafood was overly drenched in butter and to a point where even the lemon wasn't enough to cut through, this also made the dish a Tad bit salty. Perhaps for the prawns & mussels that would work, but on the fish, calamari and chips felt over powering. The calamari would have been better crispy and served with tartar sauce instead of being drenched in butter, however ,...

Was at ocean basket on Saturday with my sister, and took advantage of their birthday specials they were running. However we had such poor customer service. Our table was situated quiet near to the staffing area whereby every waitor had to pass our table in order to attend to the tables they were doing, yet 15-20 mins went by and no one came to take our order, I had to flag down a waitor to take the order, whilst customers that were seated after me was already taken care of. Thereafter the complimentary starter rolls came another 15-20 minutes later with only one of our ordered drinks served. Shortly after the meal was served, no spoon on platters to dish out was provided(had to use cutlery that we were eating with to dish food from the platters, it was difficult since the platters came with rice and we only had a fork and knife), no bowl given for prawn shells(had to use plate that rolls was served on), my drink was not served(I had to ask for it), no finger bowls provided, only one communal toilet. With eating seafood using a wetwipe is not adequate. Much time had already been spent at the restaurant already and we were quiet hungry, therefore decided to stay and not leave. The food tasted fine, no faults noted (I guess because we were so famished and just gobbled it down without much criticism)Lastly to note, the attending waitor never came once during the course of our meal to ask us if all was well but obviously expected a tip( which was still given at 10%) when the bill was paid. No apologies was given for when i had to ask for my order to be taken or for my drink to be served, nothing wrong was noted by the waitor or even other staff as every waitor once again had to pass my table to continuously serve other customers their food and drinks.
