While looking for a spot with a lovely view of the sea, we stopped at this venue, with the intention of having a cup of coffee and enjoying the view. We were greeted at the door by a friendly waitress and showed to a table. After we had our coffees, we decided to stay and enjoy some lunch after all (the weather being unpleasant and us not wanting to be outside in the cold). Unfortunately, the coffees were where most of our positive experience ended, as we firstly had difficulty in getting the attention of our waitress who seemed more interested in chatting to the manager or her fellow servers while standing at the front door than attending to the patrons (which lasted throughout our visit and we eventually had to ask another waitress for our bill). Secondly we had to go to the bar to order a bottle of wine, and of course only 2 glasses arrived at our table (at which point we decided to just order, eat and leave). With the only menu being written on the wall, we selected a Moussaka and a Greek Lamb Salad. Thirdly, with the Moussaka, you could choose 2 of their salads. Our waitress showed me to a display case where they had bowls filled with delicious looking salads and sundries. After the 3rd salad I selected and being told that unfortunately that is part of their Meze selection (there were no clear indications to which were salads and which were Mezes – as there were plates that looked like salads but were part of the Meze selection), the waitress asked the Manager for assistance in identifying which were salads and which were in fact part of the Meze. The Moussaka was, although not very traditional was pleasant, albeit a bit bland. The choice of sides was the clear winner on this plate. The grilled vegetables were very tasty and well prepared as was the chickpea salad. For the salad, the Greek Lamb was prepared well but tasted like a normal roast one would have for Sunday lunch (we concluded that the Tzatziki on top was the Greek element of the dish and explained the reason for the name “Greek Lamb”). The vegetables used for the salad were fresh. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, with the 2nd last bite of the Moussaka, a hair poked out from under the mince. We brought this to the attention of the waitress and Manager, who then vehemently insisted that we get the item scratched from our bill. After explaining to him that we did not bring this to his attention to get something for free, we went on to explain our dismay of the poor service quality not only from the waitress allocated to our table but also from him (standing at the front door counter chatting to the ladies serving and not checking on the customers). The mediocre food (and ignoring the hygiene issue of the hair), bad service and having to give training to a manager of a restaurant does not qualify as a nice afternoon out. We are always willing to try any place for the first time but unfortunately our first experience will not warrant a...
Read moreI was absolutely shocked by the standard of food - where do I even begin….
My sparkling water was “slightly sparkling” and was told that is the way it is. We only have this one. My breakfast croissant was not cut open - and all fillings just dumped on the side of the take away container. Toasted sarmie does not come with sides at all which is mind blowing since it was a R100 toastie.
No meals came with sides actually which is terrible. My souvlaki was not a souvlaki - it was an old pita - cabbage salad and a kebab. All separate. The menu clearly states souvlaki in pita. I guess they also wanted me to use my fingers to scoop out the tzatziki from the tub or something.
I saw a customer with a burger and I asked why they didn’t get a bun and a patty and salad separate ? Oh no that’s how it comes…. So I’m the malaka with a skata souvlaki ?
Not one meal had cutlery to eat with.
Honestly I have no idea how a place like this stays open with food like this.
Your an embarrassment to GREEKS and your yai yai , papu , mama, Thea all of them would turn in their grave knowing they are associated with that malakies you are putting out.
It’s not about the money re - it’s about you using our Greek heritage to hoodwink good customers. I do t think the owner will ever read this as they don’t reply to any comments posted - but by god I hope some...
Read moreWhen contemplating a visit to this establishment to work on your laptop while enjoying a meal, I would advise against it. The wifi here is notoriously sluggish, with frequent connection drops that often render it useless. It's so unreliable that it even struggles to support their own credit card machines at times, which can be quite frustrating for patrons.
On a more positive note, the location is quite convenient, and the ambiance is pleasant. However, the food is fairly average—standard fare that doesn’t really excite the palate. It's not bad by any means, but it doesn't stand out either.
As for the service, it's a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes you'll be greeted with friendly and attentive staff, while other times it feels like you're just another face in the crowd. Despite being a regular customer who orders the same thing each time, I have yet to experience any personalized service or acknowledgment of my loyalty. A simple "thank you" or even asking for my name would go a long way, but it seems like customer appreciation is not a priority here.
Given these experiences, I believe it might be time to search for a new spot where I would feel more valued as a customer. Perhaps a place with more reliable wifi, a more exciting menu, and a staff that shows genuine appreciation for...
