Newport Market & Deli — Restaurant in Mouille Point

Had the most unpleasant experience on Sunday 7 January. Our family came through from Somerset West to spend the day and we wanted to kick off our day with a great breakfast therefore we arranged to meet up here. Having been here before we knew that they were kid friendly that made our sister feel comfortable to bring along her almost 2-year-old. This is in fact not the case. After him just touching the sugar on the table everything was taken from the table with the words “I will just take that” We had coffee and planned to order but as my sister tried to put the little one to sleep (no crying was involved) management and other staff started giving us the most uncomfortable stares. It was so bad that mom and 2-year-old left the restaurant and rather went to sit in the car. We never ordered and rather settled our bill and left. Staff and management was extremely rude in general. I know I wrote a review some 9 months ago but I just needed to do an update: This morning (Sunday) was very busy and rushed for me as I look after my elderly mom for Sunday to give her regular carer a full weekend off. I called Newport ahead and asked them to prep my coffee and croissants order - for five people - quite detailed and specific and the plan was to just run in, pay and collect. I thought I was early enough to find easy parking 🅿️ but no, I hadn’t taken a road race into account. I circled twice and eventually phoned to ask whether I could do drive by. Been at Newport two or three times before. Juices are delicious and fresh, coffee is good too. Stopped there this morning after a lovely walk. Had a orange and carrot juice- delicious. Also ordered an almond croissant and I was bitterly disappointed. I was about to send it back and say “I ordered an almond croissant, not plain 😊”. But the very plain looking croissant was in fact an almond croissant. The only “almond “ thing about the croissant was the filling which was a sugar paste type of filling with waaaay to much almond essence. That’s it. Not a trace of an actual almond.
