Attended an epidemiology conference at the Cape Town convention centre last week (September, 2024). I'm always picky about where I stay. I don't like the Westins and Marriots of the world so I'm always looking for good boutique hotels. I went with Head South, and I'm so glad I did. It's got some flavour and character. But most importantly, it was modern and clean. It was located barely 2km from the convention centre. About a 5 min Uber ride ($3 or so!). I walked the route alot as well and I always felt comfortable and safe....but that's me. Usually took about 20 minutes on Main Rd...longer if you took the Promenade. Others may feel different about walking it though. There are lots of homeless folks, who may ask you for money or food. But they are not threatening.
Anyways, the hotel is fantastic. There is a security guard out front to let you in 24 hours of the day. Front desk staff (Teddy!) are super friendly. My room was super clean and modern with a view of the ocean. There are ~20 rooms or so (I think) in this hotel, so it was very quiet, and the people staying there became familiar faces at breakfast. Speaking of breakfast...it was perfect. Scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, fruit salad, breads, toasts, cheeses, avocado, hardboiled eggs, an assortment of fruits, cereals, you name it and it was there...and fresh. A slick espresso machine provided unlimited coffees, lattes, or Americanos. If I came down late for breakfast, one of the ladies working there would offer to make me fresh scrambled eggs. I can't speak about the pool...but it was there and looked clean and ready to be swam in. In the pool area there is a full bar and fridge with all you can ask of. Booze, wine, soda, water, juice. Mix up any drink you want And all you do is record on a sheet of paper your room number and what you took. All on the honor system. And it was super cheap. About $3 for a glass of wine. So that was very cool. My room was cleaned and in tip top shape while I was away during the day. There is nothing I can criticize about this place. Sometimes the road out front (Main Rd) can be quite loud with fancy cars racing the streets...but hey, it's Cape Town. My sleep was never impaired. The beach and Sea Point Promenade are only a block away. And there is easy access to trails on Signal Hill straight up St. Beddes Road. Overall I felt the area of the hotel to very safe. I never felt uncomfortable and I walked everywhere around the area. After seeing where my colleagues stayed in the CBD, I'm so glad I stayed at Head South out in Green Point. Thanks to the staff there. Highly...
Read moreOur stay at Head South Lodge was truly amazing. The hotel is not only very well-located—close to key attractions and lively restaurants at Waterfront—but also offers an incredibly warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home, always offering help with the smallest of details.
One of the highlights of our stay was how the staff helped us rent a car. We planned a trip to Cape Point, and driving was the best way to explore the area. They made the whole process so easy, from arranging the rental to having the car delivered directly to the hotel. When we returned, we were able to leave the car at the hotel without any hassle. This level of service made the trip much more enjoyable and stress-free.
The hotel is also equipped with great facilities and good Wi-Fi to remote workers like me. Though we were out exploring most of the time, it was nice to know that we could come back to a peaceful environment.
Given the incredible hospitality and convenient location, Head South Lodge will definitely be our go-to place whenever we return to Cape Town.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a seamless and...
Read moreWe accidentally booked a double bed room because as German standard, double beds are king size beds. As we were unhappy with the size of the bed we asked if we could move elsewhere, the other rooms were full and the owner gave us a larger room at no extra charge. The room was large and had a nice view with air conditioning and fridge and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The breakfast was great, the staff were all very friendly and polite. There is a small pool outside and it's nice to sit around. The location is best near the waterfront and many restaurants and shops in the area. We had street parking out front and there was someone on guard all night watching cars. It couldn’t be any better than that, highly...
