Baby wanted a steak ..and when Baby wants a steak- Baby gets a steak🥩🤣.

My love was craving a steak dinner- after a quick search it was decided that we would try the Butcher Shop & Grill.

We didn't have a reservation, so we were seated at the family style table, which was great because we met an awesome new friend.

Why you should eat here!? The space is impeccable, every thing was so well crafted from the exquisite leather stools, to the leather apron which my husband loves. The lighting was perfect, made for a nice intimate setting to dine alone, with friends/family, or with a good book as one patron did- he was definitely a return guest.

The shop had carefully selected items and pairings for said items- love the oyster tank, it is such a cleaver idea.

My husband had the ribeye- medium rare with pepper sauce, and I had the grilled pork chops with pineapple and a sweet potato. It was man against steak and man won- he enjoyed every bite.

My pork chops were overcooked and dry, but still flavorful. I didn't try the potato as it was also overdone.

My meal was not great- pork has to be handled carefully or else you get sawdust. Our server accidentally poured water in my husband's whisky and charged for a replacement- we didn't catch it until days later and after we left Cape Town.

Overall we had an amazing experience and lovely service which made up for the shortcomings. We will absolutely return and I will try something else.

Why you should not eat here: not sure that this would be a great place if you have small children. Granted we did not see the entire restaurant- but from what I saw it is definitely a place for adults and older children at best.

You should not eat here if you are looking for fast and/or cheap food..

This place is an experience and experiences tend to cost a bit more.

Overall a 5...

An absolute MUST for tourist foodies visiting Cape Town. The complimentary boerewors bites in the tomato sauce served with the bread were delicious.

The overall experience itself was incredible, and being able to personally pick out my fresh cut of steak (South African Wagyu sirloin) was super rewarding. The butchers and waitstaff were incredibly knowledgeable about the food and lend their own preference and opinions if you feel overwhelmed by the choices available.

You absolutely get what you pay for here, we hardly waited more than 15-20 minutes from when we selected our steak, told the waiter how we wanted it cooked, to receiving our meals, which were cooked perfectly and served piping hot! Nothing stood around waiting to get cold. All this despite being incredibly busy. The butcher even came up to see how we were getting on with our meals despite being sat all the way up the stairs. We also ordered the bone marrow (yummy!) and the most delicious steak sauces (I had mushroom cream sauce, my partner had peppercorn). The chips were also out of this world! Incredibly flavoursome, crispy and also very hot!

Bongani, our server, was incredibly friendly and helpful, so a big shoutout to the man himself!

The cheesecake here sealed the deal, for real! The proof really was in the pudding here!

Best meal I have ever had in my life - will most certainly be back, and not...

We decided to try the Butcher Shop & Grill for a friend's birthday, being that we love steak houses. What a terrible mistake!! The service was horrendous. We entered the establishment and were not welcomed by the door, or greeted, just directed to a waiter who gave us a table. The waiter was so unfriendly and had an attitude from the start, when bringing this up with the manager, his response was "George is our friendliest waiter", no accountability from his end. The food is average, overpriced in my opinion and managers, both had the same attitude when I brought this to light. Seems staff and managers have a chip on their shoulder and patrons are not appreciated. Constructive criticism is an important point to take in when running an establishment and the manager could not give me an opportunity to express my dissatisfaction. My partner ordered a prime roast steak, specifically asking for medium. It came back underdone, we sent it back to the kitchen and then it came back well done, very disappointing that they could not get the perfect cooked medium steak. The ambience and decor was lovely but overall I rate my experience very low, hence the one star. I have been to many steak/meat houses around Cape Town and can confidently say I will never put my foot back into The Butcher Shop & Grill. I will advise to go down the road to...

I haven't been to the Butcher Shop in ages and I cannot understand why, the restaurant is awesome. My fiance and I had a friend of hers join us for dinner - it was her birthday (I had no idea). We kicked things off with a prawn cocktail as a starter - we just shared it (purely as a nibble). We ordered some drinks, one of them being a popular choice, the Butcher's Clever. We then moved on to our mains; we ordered the beef sirloin on the bone, the beef fillet and lamb chops. I can, without a doubt, say that it is some of the best steak/beef and lamb I've ever eaten. The sirloin I had was recommended to me by our waiter and I'm really glad I opted for that dish it was delicious! Also a massive offering that I could not finish and ended up taking home. After we were finished with the mains we moved on to dessert. We took a tiramisu and just shared it. It was more than enough dessert for each of us. We also ordered an americano coffee which was great. The waiters organise a birthday message for our friend on the tiramisu plate which she loved. Funny thing happened, the table next to us started singing happy birthday in French it was so random but it put a smile on everyone in the restaurant's faces. Very cool! I highly recommend the Butcher's Shop & Grill. Babygirl and I are planning on heading up again soon. 🔜💪🍴🥂
