Oh, what a night! After a week in South Africa, we were THRILLED to finish our trip with an evening at Reverie Social Table. Our experience from start to finish was top notch. I reached out with several inquiries before booking our reservations, knowing we had 2 vegans and a tree nut allergy in our party. I wasn't sure if accommodations were possible, and I was assured that knowing that information ahead of time, would make for a delightful evening. So, we booked, and I'm happy to say, all 4 of us said it was our favorite experience of our ENTIRE trip! When entering the restaurant for the evening we were greeted with wine, given time to mingle among the other guests (2 from France, 2 from Dubai/US, 3 from Denmark, 2 from US, and then our party of 2 from the US and 2 from the UK). After happy hour we gathered around Julia's beautiful custom made 18-seater table for the most wonderful 5 course meal. Almost all of the dishes fit everyone's dietary needs (there were 2 meat dishes but Julia prepared gorgeous vegan options for our 2 vegans and 1 vegetarian in the group). My brother said, "You could have convinced me that this aubergine dish was pork belly, and I've never said that about vegan food before!"
In addition, the space was spectacular for this exact experience. The library area was quaint and lovely, the terrace was refreshing and clean, and the restrooms were clean, homey and cozy in the best way!
The entire team (3 individuals) made the night perfect. Each individual was friendly, personable, and kind. Their hard work, making the entire evening (about 5 hours) smooth, seamless, and enjoyable, does not go unnoticed. Thank you!
We HIGHLY recommend this experience to anyone looking for something different, an emersion of cultures, a social gathering with the most remarkable strangers, and the most beautiful evening of laughing, talking, eating, and enjoying each other. We were honored to have a unique experience of bonding the chef with the guests and the food. A win-win for everyone!...
Read moreWOW I am absolutely blown away by this experience and after trying all of the fine dining experiences in Cape Town, they all kind of blend together but Julia’s cooking is something that I will always remember.
It’s unique and refreshing to see a chef with so much talent, compassion, and creativity take on the challenge of creating something totally outside the box and make dinner clubs accessible. Especially after the years we’ve had, we could all use an excuse to start talking to people again.
We started the dinner with a wine hour in Julia’s backyard. It’s easy to forget that she actually lives above the kitchen so this is her home!
The first course was the line fish, which was the best bite of fish I’ve had in Cape Town, no joke. Julia curates the menu each week with whatever is available through the local farms she sources her produce from. She also comes out and explains each course and the wine pairings, which is a much better experience than at any restaurant because you’re actually talking to the chef!
Her staff work in the kitchen connected to the dining area, which you walk through to access the bathroom, so you can see all of the cooking in action.
Not only was the food interesting, but the wine pairings were spectacular. We took photos of each wine because we enjoyed them so much- we went to La Colombe the next night and one of the wine pairings was the same as Julia’s! Not sure if I’m allowed to say this but La Colombe is overrated and Reverie is, if anything, underrated and you need to book...
Read moreAbsolutely Amazing! What an AMAZING experience. You are instantly welcomed into Julia's "home" like family.
The social nature of the dining experience is only surpassed by the extraordinary culinary, wine, and service experience. Each dish is creatively prepared with expert precision and creativity.
MENU Julia shapes the menu based on the freshest ingredients she can source from local purveyors. You feel as though you are dining with friends in Julia's home vs. a sterile restaurant.
SERVICE The service staff anticipates your needs. We never once had to request bread, butter, water, wine, or anything. It was a masterclass in service.
WINES It is clear that the wines are not accidentally paired, but Julia crafts each course to perfectly pair with its wine. We arrived at 6:30PM and before we knew it, it was 11PM and the table was filled with satisfied friends who had become like family during the course of the evening.
OVERALL This was one of our favorite dining experiences that we have had anywhere in the world. One of us has dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy). Julia's team adapted each course to give that guest the full experience. They even produced their own gluten-free bread (which was fantastic). Whereas many places will accommodate dietary restrictions with something underwhelming, Julia's team embraced those restrictions in such a way that the guest had every bit of a culinary experience that the rest of us enjoyed. We cannot recommend Reverie any higher. Book in advance, and prepare for a...
