UPDATED REVIEW - OCTOBER 2024
It is with sadness that we need to update our review because this reastaurant has changed.
When ordering the usual items from them, which we have for more many years, they are no longer the same. Our favourite soup is the Won Ton (wonton) Soup and without fail this has always remained true to the reciepe.
BUT NOW, it's 100% completely different.
When we asked management about this, explaining that perhaps the kitchen had gotten our order incorrect, it was the Owner who had responded with "We only put a new green vegetable in the soup. That's all and it's exactly the same as before."
With all due respect - No. It is far from the same soup.
Wonton is a chicken broth soup - ...... what you gave us was a beef broth.
Wonton comes with some green onions, maybe lemongrass, a light soy sauce/ fish sauce, sometimes has mushrooms within it, ginger - ..... what you gave us was spinach, brocolli, cauliflower and carrots.
100% NOT WHAT YOUR TRADITIONAL SOUP is and a HUGE disappointment for those that know what your standard recipe has been since you first opened with Sanctuary Mall.
OLD REVIEW - JULY 2024
It's disappointing that this restaurant is situated inside The Sanctuary Shopping Mall, as it retracts from its potential.
The atmosphere is very small and has a crowded cafeteria seating feel, the booths situated at the entrance on the outside need to be replaced, as the cushions have been well worn through.
The counter staff are not friendly on arrival and sometimes do not greet customers. The Servers are very much the same and seem to speak very little English, as they are soft-spoken, shy, don’t seem to understand what you are ordering unless one points at the item on the menu, and they are also unsure when you ask for anything additional (beverages, sauces or cutlery).
HOWEVER, we do want to highlight that the food, in our opinion, has always been incredible and worth the wait it takes before receiving your order. The Kitchen prepares everything on order and do not store any pre-made dishes, therefore, quality and freshness come into play. This does, however, mean that on some occasions, they may run out of certain more popular dishes.
Despite the lack of customer service experience and the atmosphere, we would recommend that you try the menu, as you may well be surprised.
Should you feel that this is not a restaurant you wish to dine at, they often have a long line of customers who have placed take-away orders with them. Alternatively, they do have a second restaurant on Main Road in Somerset West town, which we are...
Read moreTai San Restaurant used to be one of mine and my family’s favourite restaurant. So today I took my mother and my sister to Tai San restaurant for an early dinner and we all walked out with huge disappointment. My mom had ordered a Pad Thai with beef and 5 minutes within eating she had found hair deep in her noodles and when we told the supervisor Shelley, she didn’t really say much or gave much attention to what just had happened. She sent one of the waitress Samantha to our table and asked if we would like to order a replacement or the same order, my mother who is at this point disgusted, she thought she’ll give Tai San another chance to redeem themselves and she ordered Singapore noodles and when it came, the flavour was completely different to when we went a week ago. She didn’t even take more than 3 bites as you can tell it was cooked in a rush. When Samantha came over with the bill she had charged us with the Pad Thai and Singapore noodles added to the bill, despite only having about 5/6 bites both dishes put together. When we asked about it, she then removed the pad Thai. We are hugely disappointed, Tai San Restaurant has lost a huge customer. My family and I will never...
Read moreI used to go about every second-third week. My family and I were obsessed with the quality of the sushi. However, the service there is horrible (especially that one waitress who does not seem like she even wants to be there). Very bad acknowledgement to customers. Also, the waiting time is unacceptable. Appoint at least 2-3 sushi chefs (maybe one on takeaway orders and the others on in-person orders or vice-versa). I would wait 1+ hours for my food. Lastly, we would pay a lot of money for good sushi, but they have ever since changed their sushi mayo. I would send my food back and ask for sashimi (or anything without mayo) because this alternate mayo is truly disgusting. I asked why they're using a different mayo, and their response is that there's a scarce in the supply. Ridiculous. EVERY other sushi place has sushi (kewpie) mayo. Even I do AT HOME. You guys need to change that, even if it means changing suppliers. Honestly it's bs. It is ultimately the reason why I stopped spending my money there. You guys will start to lose customers. It is time for a change. I would hear from my own friends their terrible experiences at tai shan. I wish I could...
