We went out for supper Thursday 27th October 2022. We ordered drinks then the waiter arrived without a wine glass but brought the wine. We then ordered creamy garlic snails as a starter. My husband, (his taste is affected due to medication) finished his started but I could not eat 2 snails. We waited for our waiter whom was missing in action. Eventually (after about 15 -20 minutes, the manager asked if she could help. The creamy garlic sauce was just a white sauce with no salt with a garlic butter separated from the white sauce in the snail bowl and the snails was not even cooked in garlic butter or seen a pan. It was cold and tasteless. She removed the one order from the account though. On receiving my sirloin steak ordered medium to well, I received it rare. We have during this time not seen our waiter. We could not order more drinks, ice, or coke. The manager eventually saw we were looking for something and asked if she could assist. The standard of once a nice place has is going down. Going out for supper should be an nice experience not a bad experience. When I pay for a service, I expect to receive it. Why must I pay 10% tip if I did not even receive a 3 % service. The manager is not helpful either and comes across as if we must expect what we get. We have been to this restaurant several times now in a short time and every time we think we will give them another change, and every time it is the same problems. Cold food, food we did not order, raw meat or meat we did not order. Drinks - wait for ever. Waiters missing in action etc etc. I will not recommend them to anybody. The toilets never has toilet paper, neat and tidy. This is a health risk going to...

I have visited twice and my or our experience was the same both times. The place looks lovely and has so much potential. It is situated next to another restaurant that you need to book a table in advance so you'd expect overflow business like we were to help them a lot. We wanted to go to their neighbors but as usual they were fully booked with only seating at the bar available.

So we opted to find a table at De Kelder to watch the rugby. We were greeted by a man that was either a customer or a manager, there was no uniform or bar name visible, and that was the last time anyone spoke to us. We found a table in the bar area, rearranged chairs to have more comfortable ones then went to the bar to order as our experience taught us nobody was going to come and offer us service.

After our drinks were almost finished we contemplated the difference between serving ourselves and another restaurant that knows the value of service considering the price.

We decided that the bar seating next door would be a more logical answer. When I paid for the drinks it seemed the barman was expecting a tip and I joked about tipping myself.

When we entered the next door restaurant it was a different world completely, greeted at the door by staff, greeted enthusiasticly at the bar and even offered a special on the same drinks we ordered earlier, our empty glasses and cans removed and refills offered when the drinks were almost empty.

It was no longer a surprise why De Kelder always has...

I rate zero stars! This place should be shut down! Poor management , poor planning and worst experience from wrong info provided to raw food.We booked for a set dinner and dessert to celebrate my father's 60th birthday. We had such struggles finding out the correct procedures and prices for the booking. We went there twice and spoke over the phone with the manager and got different info each time. After confirming the booking twice we learned a few days before booking wasnt made. The day before we learned the wrong details was recorded for the booking. After that roller coaster ride we were served a raw baked malva pudding with ice cream instead of the custard as we requested. When we advised the manager he just said he will investigate. HE never replaced the raw desserts or gave other options. He only swoped one out for some ice cream . When the bill came we were charged for all 15 of those raw desserts that was send back and we were charged R80 for a jug of juice after it was first confirmed to be R60 by a waiter , then R70 by the manager....

Ordered a takeaway De Kelders pasta. The food was okay, albeit extremely oily (oil started separating from the food while it was still hot), there were probably a total of five steak strips that had clearly been left alone too long. A very thrown together meal but not inedible. Likely won't be ordering it again as I didn't expect the amount of oil to food ratio to be what it was. Takeaway cutlery would also be appreciated. The hostess at the door was very friendly when I arrived and ensured I was called when my food was done. Wait time was about 30 minutes, although I was informed it was 10 when I called. Not a train smash as I am nearby but could have been if I had to drive far out. Would also recommend having the call operator ask for all the relevant information before attempting to hang up and me having to prompt her to ask for my name and provide an eta on food.

We were hopeful for a nice hearty meal on a cold evening from De Kelder but what we got was truly the opposite. The lamb neck was old & tough as a boot; the mashed potatoes was lumpy, and the gravy even older - probably from yesterday. The Malay style chicken curry was virtually non-existent and covered in a layer of oil. The side veg was clearly out of frozen box. I don’t have anything better to say about the sad looking schnitzel either. I seriously wonder how this place can stay open serving paying customers food like this? And for the price paid; 10/10 would not recommend. Don’t bother speaking to the manager because nothing will be done. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this nonsense happen. De Kelder - you need to do better! Better yet, save yourself the trouble and just go next door to Fancy Frank’s instead.

Great Food! Great view! Great Servers! Great Drink offers! My God their food is to die for. Definitely don't mind being a regular here. My only problem, the appetizers come out with our main course, don't know if it's the way our server rings it in or what but I honestly dont like that. Other than that. The few times we've been here, it's been excellent. Shadrack is always our server. He's amazing!!!
