This place is usually my favourite place, but on Tuesday night it completely disappointed me... Went for drinks because it was my friend's birthday. We are both very chilled people so I usually don't mind waiters making mistakes or service being slow, but if that is in combination with rudeness I will not stay silent.
We went at 19:30, stood by the door for 5 minutes and no one came to us. We eventually flagged down a waiter and asked if we can be seated, and he said we can sit at the long table, as it was quite full. We sat and started to chat, but after 15 minutes realised we still have not been brought menu's. The waiters were also not even looking in our direction so I had to walk to one and ask him for menu's. He didn't say sorry: he didn't even say anything at all. He just walked off and brought us menu's without a word. Extremely rude! We decided on our order and started conversation again, and after ANOTHER 15 minutes again realised no one came to take our order! This is 30 minutes now that we have not received ANY service!!!!! We decided we've had enough so we stood up to go to another restaurant, and at that moment the barista came and asked what was the matter. We told him we have been sitting here and no one is minding us, so a waitress ended up taking our orders and bringing it. Another hour passed, no one came to check in on us even though we wanted to order something to eat. Nothing.
EXTREMELY bad service! Wish I could...
Read moreI used to be a big fan of De Warenmarkt, a popular restaurant known for its delicious food and great service. However, my recent experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The food was mediocre at best, and the waiting times were incredibly long.
It's a shame to see the quality of the food decline at De Warenmarkt. The menu used to feature a wide variety of fresh, flavorful dishes that were expertly prepared by the talented kitchen staff. However, on my most recent visit, the food was bland and lacked the same attention to detail that I had come to expect from this establishment. It was clear that the restaurant had cut corners on ingredients and preparation, resulting in a disappointing meal.
Furthermore, the waiting times were unacceptable. It took far too long for our food to arrive, and the staff seemed uninterested in providing any updates or explanations for the delay. The restaurant was also quite crowded, which made for a noisy and uncomfortable dining experience.
Overall, I'm sad to say that I cannot recommend De Warenmarkt in its current state. While it may have been a great restaurant in the past, the decline in food quality and service is a major disappointment. Until the restaurant can improve its offerings and waiting times, I would recommend looking elsewhere for a satisfying...
Read moreWe had dinner at De Warenmarkt. We were six people of which four of us opted for the butcher’s cut. Two of us got the right cut of meat that we selected from the butchery, however the other two did not receive theirs. The waiter assured us that was the meat that we selected. One was supposed to be a sirloin, it was not a sirloin. The other waiter come and assured us again, that is sirloin. The guest was a cattle farmer and a butcher, so he might know something about meat. Later we spoke to the manager, who just smiled and walked away. Inexperienced. A guest at another table said he also got another cut, other than the one he chose. You pay an extra R70 for the meat to be prepared only in salt, pepper and olive oil. However it tasted as if there was nothing on it. No taste, no flavour. Tasteless meat. The meat is served along with a tasteless mushroom sauce(mushrooms and cream/milk). I am under the impression the kitchen does not have ANY SALT! In my opinion, restaurants in Stellenbosch is so use to tourists and when the locals come along, the treat them the same – AS IF THEY KNOW NOTHING. I am a regular at De Warenmarkt and last night I took special guests to spoil them. It was a disappointment.
The restaurant is still a stunning restaurant and a gem in...
