We went there on Saturday evening and reserved a table for two at 7 15pm. We had done this way in advance as it gets extremely busy at this spot and we were not from Stellenbosch. Please be sure to book, drop in's getting a seat on a weekend would most likely not get a table.

We were seated outside the restaurant. We requested to be seated inside as it was very cold and windy. The manager assured us that as soon as a table opened up, we would be moved inside. Needless to say, two hours passed and that very manager never ever made his way back to us even when tables inside were clearing up. I would suggest asking people where they would like to be seated when making a reservation.

The tables outside are way too small to have a comfortable experience. I would suggest this area for people looking to have a drink and something small. This area is completely isolated from the restaurant inside and as such, you do not get to experience anything actually. I was so disappointed about this.

As a starter, my partner and I shared the 500g ribs - this was delicious and the meat was juicy and the sauce was great! I would definitely recommend that you give this a try. Some of the best ribs I have ever had!

We waited quite some time for the main meal but it did not bother us too much as we prefer some time between meals so if you don't mind waiting about 30 minutes for your main, you will be fine (during their peak time I guess). My partner ordered the 200g fillet medium with the truffle mushroom sauce and onion rings. The steak was done more medium rare. He enjoyed the onion rings and sauce. He mentioned that the steak was soft and of good quality.

I ordered the Grovnesor medium rare with parmesan mash. Mind you, this steak is R335 per 300g, so you could assume my expectations were high. The steak was tough and there was a lot of sinew which one would not expect as it was suppose to be a fillet cut. The cook was oddly uneven as some parts were rare and the rest medium to well. My partner had some of mine too as I could not finish it and he mentioned that it was definitely not the same as his cut. The parmesan mash was creamy and tasty.

We decided to skip dessert based on the food quality we were receiving all night - higher end restaurants should be consistent in quality. The service was great at the start, became less attentive as they became busy.

If I compare this spot to lets say a cattle baron, the quality of cattle baron steak is far superior. Highly disappointed in our experience and would not...

Title: A Culinary Pilgrimage to The Fat Butcher: A Carnivore's Sanctuary in Stellenbosch

Nestled within the serene embrace of Dorp Street in Stellenbosch lies an epicurean haven that beckons to the discerning palate—The Fat Butcher. This esteemed establishment, revered as one of South Africa's premier steakhouses, offers a symphony of flavour that celebrates the art of beef with unparalleled finesse.

The Fat Butcher's menu reads like a love letter to beef aficionados, showcasing the exquisite Chalmar beef sourced from the fertile pastures of Pretoria. Among the many offerings, the New York cut stands out—a masterful cut that delivers a mouth-watering, luscious experience with every bite. This extraordinary culinary creation is a testament to the steakhouse's commitment to quality and perfection.

For those seeking a more nuanced flavor profile, the fillet accompanied by a delectable Collins sauce, enhanced with the warmth of Madagascan pepper and the subtle citrus undertones of Cointreau, offers a sublime experience. This dish exemplifies the harmony that can be achieved when skilled culinary craftsmanship meets exceptional ingredients.

The meal commenced with an elegant duo of starters: a delicate beef carpaccio and an exquisite steak tartare. The latter, adorned with a Kalahari truffle sauce, was particularly noteworthy, elevating the dish to new heights of gastronomic delight. Each bite was a celebration of the raw, unadulterated essence of beef, artfully enhanced by the truffle's earthy aroma.

A dining experience at The Fat Butcher is not merely a meal; it is a celebration of culinary artistry. This is further enriched by an exceptional wine list, curated to complement and elevate the flavors of each dish. A glass of the magnificent Mas Nicolas 2017 was the perfect accompaniment, its rich berry notes enhancing the sumptuous meat and creating a symphony of flavour that lingered long after the last bite.

In the heart of Stellenbosch, The Fat Butcher stands as a testament to the joys of meat-eating, a veritable sanctuary for those who relish the finer things in life. For anyone fortunate enough to find themselves in this charming town, a visit to this extraordinary steakhouse is not merely recommended—it is imperative.

So, when you find yourself wandering the picturesque streets of Stellenbosch, let your culinary curiosity lead you to The Fat Butcher.

So.... Take every place you've ever eaten at. Even if all the restaurants in S.A trained for another 5years, they STILL WILL NOT come close to this place!! I have travelled this country's eateries. Never have my fiancƩ and I been treated like Royalty, as this place does. Service in S.A is so bad and people tolerate it. But today at the Fat Butcher, we were greeted upon entry. Covid check-in is electronic. Escorted and seated. Greeted by Innocence. Greeted by the fantastically well groomed and well presented men, that gave this restaurant, an air of perfection. Yes perfection. We were dazzled by the menu. The staff that EXPLAINED the menu. You can view the menu online and scan the QR code!!! They are highly knowledgeable on what they are presenting and what you are eating. We had, what we thought was a simple burger. And my God, it is brought to our table and our options are detailed. Their attire, is perfect. Their language, is perfect. This burger, surpasses, anything I have eaten at any place in this country. FANTASTIC FOOD!!! beyond any description, that any literary expert can through out. After lunch, we walked through the venue, to find, a Cellar room!! Wait there's more... A meat cabinet!! A bathroom, with impeccable standards!! A young lady, (Exquisitely Dressed) who was Daintifully packing sweet packs for clients!! (We passed our compliments to her and the owners and staff). everything, is in First World Class Standards!! The management of this establishment, has an almost Psychotic Attention to detail!! This restaurant is nothing short of PERFECT The staff and management of this place,,,,, has set a New standard of what to expect at a South African restaurant. I challenge any restaurateur, to step to this and they WILL Not come close. Great venue!! All the gentlemen, that attended to our table, Outstanding Work!! Owners and management, WELL DONE on a fantastic venue!!

Ps: The Bill..... Comes accompanied, inside an Antique book on Law Statutes. 26/6/1940!! unbelievable!!!
