We went there on Saturday evening and reserved a table for two at 7 15pm. We had done this way in advance as it gets extremely busy at this spot and we were not from Stellenbosch. Please be sure to book, drop in's getting a seat on a weekend would most likely not get a table.
We were seated outside the restaurant. We requested to be seated inside as it was very cold and windy. The manager assured us that as soon as a table opened up, we would be moved inside. Needless to say, two hours passed and that very manager never ever made his way back to us even when tables inside were clearing up. I would suggest asking people where they would like to be seated when making a reservation.
The tables outside are way too small to have a comfortable experience. I would suggest this area for people looking to have a drink and something small. This area is completely isolated from the restaurant inside and as such, you do not get to experience anything actually. I was so disappointed about this.
As a starter, my partner and I shared the 500g ribs - this was delicious and the meat was juicy and the sauce was great! I would definitely recommend that you give this a try. Some of the best ribs I have ever had!
We waited quite some time for the main meal but it did not bother us too much as we prefer some time between meals so if you don't mind waiting about 30 minutes for your main, you will be fine (during their peak time I guess). My partner ordered the 200g fillet medium with the truffle mushroom sauce and onion rings. The steak was done more medium rare. He enjoyed the onion rings and sauce. He mentioned that the steak was soft and of good quality.
I ordered the Grovnesor medium rare with parmesan mash. Mind you, this steak is R335 per 300g, so you could assume my expectations were high. The steak was tough and there was a lot of sinew which one would not expect as it was suppose to be a fillet cut. The cook was oddly uneven as some parts were rare and the rest medium to well. My partner had some of mine too as I could not finish it and he mentioned that it was definitely not the same as his cut. The parmesan mash was creamy and tasty.
We decided to skip dessert based on the food quality we were receiving all night - higher end restaurants should be consistent in quality. The service was great at the start, became less attentive as they became busy.
If I compare this spot to lets say a cattle baron, the quality of cattle baron steak is far superior. Highly disappointed in our experience and would not...
