My husband and I have been coming here since 2018. We were there just yesterday 23rd September 2023. When in Simon's Town look for that bold statue of - the only dog on this planet to EVER be enlisted in a Navy Able Seaman Just Nuisance (yes a dog and yes South Africa holds that awesome accolade) at Jubilee Square and you will see it, Fran's Place. If you're a tourist or you reside in Cape Town and you want really good food for an awesome affordable price then Fran's Place IS that place to go. It's that little hidden gem that not everyone knows about BUT when you enter this hidden gem, taste the food you feel as if you want to shout it from the mountain (yes, the one right there) just to tell everyone how great the food is. The owner Fran has the most amazing, welcoming, gentle soul and it showcases in the food she prepares and serves you. Her servers are friendly and fast! The restaurant is clean. The food, from the very delicious South African platter to the AMAZING seafood platters, the fresh fish, to the meaty steaks, mouth watering burgers and chips, the beautiful cakes and you will , as I was, be pleasantly surprised. The food at Fran's Place is wholesome. Tasty. Unforgettable. Reminded me of the good food my mom used to prepare when I was a child. Please spread the word, and the word is, "GO TO FRAN'S PLACE!"

Amazing food. Coming from Pretoria, we ate at Fran's every three days during our holiday in 2022. Other days we tried other places, but Fran have just the best battered hake and amazing calamari. And we did try every place. I had a meeting in the Cape today, but planned to have at least one meal here, and the hake and calamari is still the best. We were initially referred Fran's, and, to be honest, the look of the place did not impress us initially. My wife actually did not wat to eat here, as the furniture is rather basic, with a basic decor. But the food make up for anything that you may not like. The 4.4 score is likely due to atmosphere, but do not let that score fool you. I actually did not want to leave a score in 2022, as I do not want other people to know of the place, as I think that the rwst of cape town would ruin the place if everyone start pitching here. But seriously, a 4.4 score is crazy low for this place. My only issue is that the portion sizes are too big, as I have never been able to do mains (and only mains) and desert. How Fran can make money on those portions is just mind boggling. Try Fran's ...

So unpretentious and non touristy- the service was down to earth and the food was reasonably priced with large portions. I asked for the fish grilled, calamari fried and salad instead of chips - no problem was the reply. The fish was cooked perfectly. The calamari crispy and the huge salad had mixed leaves, creamy feta and olives. The lamb curry was very fragrant and sweet, not spicy at all. You can see the quality and size of the meals. There are some reviews where they moan about the service; from our experience, the service from our waitress and the friendliness of the other staff was fantastic. We had a glass of wine, a soft drink, the calamari and fish as well as a huge lamb curry. All for just over R300. We will certainly be back. (Also saw a couple of baboons window shopping when we left!) (Early dinner on a Sunday)

Nothing fancy about this place and good prices. It's a typical seafood restaurant you would find on a beach with a great view. This restaurant was recommended by a local and since we wanted seafood, decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the relaxed environment by the water, and our server was attentive and accommodating. We order wings everywhere we go. These were dry and tasteless. We also ordered the seafood platter and it could have used a bit more seasoning. My favorite was the calamari, worth ordering, in my opinion. I will probably try another restaurant next time I visit St Simon Place. Overall, an ok experience, but could have been better.

Small restaurant, great views of the harbour. Very popular, but was not busy on when we visited on this Wednesday afternoon. Sitting outside on the verandah is best on a sunny day. Unfortunely the sun shades were not opened we were told by the waiter that they did not put it up today. There was also no offer to put it up for us, although we asked about the shades as it was a sunny afternoon. The service was very slow and was not welcoming. This was definitely a downer. The food was tasty, but not up to the standard we experienced previously. This was not a good experience today.

You heard about cheap and cheerful? This is the place. Exactly this is it. Cheap and cheerful food. No fancy stuff, no weird dish names on the menu. The French fries 🍟 were excellent. I ordered fish and chips. The fish was good, and big portion. But it wasn't well marinated. It was still OK and I enjoyed it. I think we paid nearly $20 for two meals and a drink. Very good value for money. I guess! There is a funny toilet roll by the entrance of the restrooms. I think it was supposed to be a kitchen towel roll, but someone decided it could be also used for the restrooms.
