While on conference one of our team dinners was held at @Gold Restaurant It's an African themed eatery with amazing decor and prides itself on 4 F's, namely Food, Flavour Family and Friends. I would even add Fun, because on arrival we started off with marimba percussion and djembe drums and then a drumming session which got the evening off to a fun start for all. The 14 dish tasting menu items are served "buffet" style on the tables to share, which I think was a bit small for the number of people having to share between us. Especially since some of the food was not to everyone's liking, and wished we had more of certain dishes. The ones that stood out for me were: •SOUTH AFRICAN SEARED OSTRICH FILLET SALAD Marinated Ostrich fillet is combined with summer greens for a delicious start to our African Feast •TUNISIAN PRAWN BRIOUAT Briouats translates into “little Parcels” and are enjoyed all over North Africa and can be filled with savoury or sweet fillings •MOZAMBIQUAN CHILI CHICKEN WINGS This Mozambiquan specialty honours Portuguese seafarers who sailed around the African continent during the 16th century searching for gold, precious stones, ivory, amber and spices. Enjoy with the Ethiopian IAB to calm the fire •SOUTH AFRICAN LAMB AND SPRINGBOK SAMOOSAS Variations of these crisp pastries can be found throughout the Middle East and Northern African countries, including South Africa. We fill ours with minced organic lamb and springbok •TANZANIAN FISH CURRY With fresh water lakes on its Western and Northern borders, and Indian ocean to the East, Tanzania has an abundant selection of fish dishes. This one is delicately flavoured with coconut milk and fresh spinach Dessert was only a choice of Ice Cream or Pumpkin fritters (which needed more flavour) To end off the evening all the staff joined in on a singing and dancing stint to say farewell. It's a lovely restaurant, and has a great vibe. The food was good, and something different, but some were still hungry. #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeerDrinks #TFMGoldRestaurant

This is a dinner and entertainment evening experience. You pay a cost per head for a fixed menu which includes dishes influenced from different parts of Africa. These are provided to you over the course of the evening. As you eat a group of dancers travel through the large restaurant space and perform authentic African dances. There were 3 separate performances on the evening we visited. I presume this is the standard. You are also offered to have face paint applied to you to bring the experience alive further (it's subtle so don't worry about looking like a child at a kid's birthday party). The dancers were energetic and incredibly entertaining. The menu is meat heavy but vegetarian options are provided. The meat is all halal, so top marks there!! Some thoughts on the experience; the mains are refillable but the starters are not, I thought the portion sizes on the starters were a little miserly. A little more work required on desserts; there were no options, only one set item, the dessert was quite good (not great) but it would take to the next level if there was a choice between 2 truly great desserts. Once the performances are over there does seem to be a bit of a change in atmosphere where you feel a little rushed to depart, that said I'm certain the staff would accommodate those who want to stay on and extend their conversations over a few bottles of wine. Perhaps it's best to think of this as a catered show as opposed to a restaurant in the true sense. We left feeling absolutely stuffed and were thoroughly entertained throughout. A little pricey but again if you think of this as a show as well as a dining experience it doesn't feel too bad. A must visit!

We chose to go to Gold's for dinner. We read the reviews, and decided to give it a shot. I made reservations and put our food allergies in. When we got there, I reminded the server of them and she looked as if she didn't even know what I talking about. A nice lady offered face paintings so I got one. The first dishes were brought out and it was hard to remember what they were as she called them out. I wish we had some sort of menu (only received drink menu) so we could keep up with what we were eating just so we could recall it. It was hard to hear her call out the name of each dish and I'd like to know what I'm eating. I kept asking her to repeat some items because of the music, it was too loud to hear. Many of the dishes were wasted as we don't eat certain meats (shame). The food was not too good or tasty, but I did like the peri peri chicken, the fish/shrimp curry and bread. We weren't served our mains as quickly as others around us and had to ask someone about it. Our server came and told us they had to make our food since we had food allergies (though I did forget to put mushrooms on the reservation but I told her). The musicians/dancer did okay but it felt they were doing what they do most evenings, just performing to get it over with. There was no real lasting impression. I guess I expected to feel an authentic experience (and I was ready, was also ready for authentic African food) but it just wasn't. I can say and respect the fact that everyone worked hard to feed/entertain a restaurant full of people as they served, sang and danced throughout the entire place. Our server was really nice. She spoke to us about where she is from etc and the type of food from her country she enjoys. It was just okay for us but try it for yourself, that's what we did.

Gold is a must-visit for every foreign tourist in South Africa, offering a delectable feast of 12 authentic African dishes. The beauty lies in the fact that you don't have to choose; everything is brought to your table. Drawing from my hotel industry experience, the service surpassed expectations—treating us like royalty with impeccable attention. Despite the spice level (it wasn’t really hot at all), they took care to cater to my wife's non-spicy preferences. Although we missed the early drumming, it's highly recommended for a fun experience. African entertainment throughout the meal ensures memorable moments—don't forget your camera. Opt for face painting if you want to leave looking African! Exceptional value is evident, attracting both locals and celebratory gatherings. The perfectly portioned food allows for reorders; we noticed a neighboring table returning to the starters, featuring delicious snoek pate, roosterkoek (roasted bread), and a delicate seared ostrich salad. While we left early, there might even be dancing towards the evening's end. Remarkably, they generously share recipes online. A night at Gold is truly unforgettable

Gold Restaurant is a truly exceptional dining experience, and it’s the incredible staff that makes it shine. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and immersed in an evening filled with culture, flavor, and fun. We started with their interactive Djembe Drumming session, which was an absolute blast! It set the tone for a lively and engaging night. Afterward, we enjoyed their 14-dish tasting menu while being entertained by their phenomenal live performances—songs, dances, and traditional musical instruments. The performers are incredibly talented, and their energy made the evening unforgettable. The tasting menu was a culinary adventure, offering a wonderful opportunity to learn about and savor a variety of traditional African dishes. Each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, and they easily accommodated my gluten-free diet with care and expertise. If you’re looking for a dining experience that’s as entertaining as it is delicious, Gold Restaurant is a must-visit. The combination of amazing food, vibrant performances, and outstanding hospitality creates a night you’ll never forget!

We really didn’t know what to expect when coming into GOLD but we just knew we had heard good things. The whole experience truly blew us away! The food was fantastic, especially the appetizers. They gave you the perfect portion sizes, because in the past when we’ve done multi-course experiences we either leave overly full or still hungry. This wasn’t the case here - it was just right! We loved how the menu was a true celebration of so many different countries within Africa! The entertainment was fantastic, too. We loved how the performers rotated locations so you had time to enjoy each song and dance as well as still connect with the people you were dining with. The performers’ voices and instruments sounded heavenly - I had chills from the music! Then the restaurant itself was BEAUTIFUL - it was decorated with so much color and vibrancy. And overall the environment & staff were so welcoming and truly genuine. 10/10 would recommend this experience to anyone visiting Cape Town! My only regret is that I booked our reservation a little too late and missed out on the drum experience - so book early!
