I had an utterly disastrous experience at John Dory's Florida that left a lasting impression – and not in a good way. We ordered sushi in a practically empty restaurant (like we were the only ones there) and shockingly, it took a staggering 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The crab bomb was a monumental letdown; it was a bland mix of rice and cream cheese with zero hint of crab. My third bomb had an unsettling, off-putting taste, something was definitely off in there. Across all three sushi variations we ordered, the rice was overcooked, and the salmon was disturbingly tasteless. Moving on to mains, we opted for the hake special... and I must confess, it was hands-down one of the most revolting meals I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. The prawns had an alarming discoloration on the shells, the meat was unnervingly powdery, and the sauce had an odd, pasty consistency. The fish was watery and flavourless inside, and the veggies in the savoury rice tasted like they'd been sitting for an eternity – like they'd been languishing in the kitchen for months on end. It genuinely felt like the restaurant was desperate to offload ancient ingredients. On top of the horrible food was the glaring lack of service; my friend finished her drink halfway through, and the waiter didn't even bother asking for a refill. I hit my limit with the main course – there was absolutely no way I was going to consume that questionable food; food poisoning wasn't on my agenda. When I voiced my discontent, the manager didn't offer so much as an apology. Instead, they summoned another staff member who looked visibly taken aback when I pointed out the prawn shell discoloration – his expression said it all. Overall, it was the worst dining experience of my life. The handling of the complaint reeked of unprofessionalism – it felt like they were just waiting for us to leave, like 'you're unhappy? Fine, you can go'. Never...
Read moreI placed an order online to collect at the Florida Road Durban branch at 19:30. I ordered the meal special of the 8 pc sushi with buddy coke for R105 and the warrior platter. I received an email stating that the order would be ready to collect in 20mins only to receive a call at 19:45 to say that I need to advise what the sushi 8 piece order was about as they don't serve it, as well as it will only be ready in 1 hour due to the store not having a sushi chef. This was meant to be dinner for my son and I.went to the store and the food was only ready in 1 hour though the store was empty
What unprofessional and pathetic service is this? Why advertise something in the app if it can't be...
Read moreBeing a sushi addict, I waste no opportunity in sampling as many of John Dorys restaurants as possible. We recently visited the branch on Florida Road, Durban and were quite disappointed. The person preparing the sushi did not add the cavi-art on the sushi and we had to send our meals back for him to do so.(this is my daughter's favorite parts). The sushi seemed 'dry' and looked as if a trainee chef had been experimenting on it. The waitress was unfriended and didn't seem happy to help us. A very cold and unwelcoming reception. Definitely not on my list of branches to recommend. I'll stick to Pavillion...
