Amazing service. The prices and menus on this level seems to be standardised and I believe the most significant difference is the service.
Letâs talk about the food first!! The prices felt a bit steep but the seafood was very very sweet and fresh. We had the assorted grilled platter and swapped some clams for abalone (for the same price!! Owner compromised and didnât even hesitate!). Everything was only lightly seasoned but did not lack in flavour. Very buttery, chewy, and sweet. It wasnât overly oily as well. However, I find that their prawns were not as fresh. They werenât bad, just not very sweet either.
Now to the service! Jacky was so sweet & welcoming. He didnât try to push any dishes to us & when we decided against getting abalones, he didnât try to push or sell anything else. Instead, he came back later saying theyâd prepare some for us for the same price (of course they exchanged it with another clam) so that we could try everything! He patiently helped explain to us how to eat each side dish & what went well with what sauce. He did the same with the clams, getting us to try the one with the most muted flavours.
After our meal, he shared that itâs Korean tradition to have a fish stew after a seafood meal and gave us a free pot :,). It was truly very comforting and helped settle/ cleanse the palette as the soup was spicy and peppery. This was such a nice final touch and a nice gesture for them. Side note: I think this is their marketing tactic but it was still a pleasant surprise.
Our whole meal was 60,000 KRW and fed 2 pax. If youâre a foreigner/ tourist, I think Jackyâs would be very suitable as the language barrier would be lower and he is willing to adjust to suit your preferences! Just ask and be polite and donât expect a...
Read moreI didnât want to have to do this but here goes.
I came to Jackyâs on the recommendation by lonely planet and also some of the other good reviews I had seen.
The waiter and waitresses were very welcoming and helped explain the menu and I ended up ordering the BBQ flounder.
Quite frankly, it was incredibly average. I think the fish had been slightly over cooked too so it had a rubbery texture. I didnât really enjoy the banchan and the side dishes either, they all just tasted a bit weird and sloppy.
I left feeling full and half satisfied at least anyway.
The reason Iâm having to give 1 star is that because later on in the day I experienced the worst food poisoning Iâve ever had. I hadnât eaten anything else that day so it narrowed it down that it mustâve been something I ate at Jackyâs. Iâm not entirely sure what happened but it is more than likely that the fish wasnât fresh or that whoever was handling the fish wasnât up to hygiene standards.
Very disappointed because Iâm currently bed bound and I was really looking forward to visiting Jagalchi market and having a delicious meal. This didnât happen and then I was also made ill by the food prepared in this restaurant.
On that basis, i would never go back again and Iâd discourage anyone that is...
Read moreI rarely leave a bad review, but consider this a warning. Do not eat here unless you want to for the "experience". It was by far the most expensive and worst meal in Korea. We wanted a small amount of sashimi and a grilled fish for 3 people. That would have cost us 130,000 won!? Utter madness. We tried to leave but the very friendly waiter talked us down and knocked 30,000 off the price. We should have left, but we were convinced to stay becsuse we were hungry and wanted fish. Mistake.
The sashimi was tough and tasteless. I adore sashimi but I couldn't eat it. It was also meant to be a selection of different fish, but it wasn't. The grilled fish was tasty, but nothing special, and the same as any other fish which would cost 1/4 the price.
It did come with complementary extras which were fine (the seafood pancake was very tasty), but overall the meal was not good and exceedingly expensive.
Ive been travelling in Japan and Korea for 7 weeks and this was the first time I left a restaurant feeling disappointed, unsatisfied...
