I ate here a few times while visiting Seoul and for good reason. The food is excellent and the family that runs the place are very sweet. I loved the decor too. Nice ramen restaurant in Dongdaemun. Their ramen broth is quite unique. Really rich flavours. A bit too fishy and too much onions for my taste but still good. EDIT: we came back after 9 months, unfortunately it seems that they changed the recipe of the soup and it tastes very fishy now. It’s a real shame because we talked about wanting this soup so much in our own country.

정말 실망스러움. 호불호 많이 갈리는 가게인것은 리뷰보고 알고있었으나 자부심이 넘치는 댓글이나 글에 제대로 하시겠구나 싶어서 갔는데 아니나다를까 굉장히 실망스러웠음. 칭찬할점은 차슈가 굉장히 맛있었다는점. 염지도 그렇고 수비드 차슈인데 그 특유의 햄맛이 안나고 탱글탱글 맛있었음. 요근래 먹은 차슈중 최고. 어떻게 만드는지 궁금할정도 부타노가쿠니는 그냥 그럭저럭. 면은 평범. 특별하지않았음. 츠케멘 돈코츠 두개 맛봤는데 돈코츠 육수는 멸치향이 강하단 말이 있었으나 니보시나 교카이를 원래 좋아하는 입장에선 별로 강하지않았음. (츠케멘도) 다만 알바하시는분이 타래를 빼먹은건지 아니면 원래이런지 콧테리라고 써놓은 진득한 육수에 엄청 슴슴해서 밸런스가 아예 안맞았음. 진득하면 그만큼 느끼함을 잡아줄 염도가 있어야하는데 간이 안되어있어서 맛이 없다 수준이었음 염도만 맞았어도 꽤 괜찮은 돈코츠였을것. 츠케지루도 마찬가지. 감자를 갈아서 넣었다는데 츠케지루가 아니고 감자샐러드급이었음. 농후한 맛은 전혀없고 전분뭉친 육수맛. 거기다 똑같은 문제. 엄청 싱거웠음. (다만 이것도 염도가 제대로 맞았으면 괜찮았을수도) 제일문제는 사장님이 없었다는거. 알바들 두명이있는데 둘다 외국인에 한국어로 소통이 잘 안되는 분들이었다. 싱거운 육수에 타래요청을 했으나 대화가 통하지않아 그냥 싱거운 국물 츠케지루에 대충 찍어먹고나옴. 알바뷴들은 친절했다. 다만 가게 주인으로서 뭔가 의식이 부족하지않나? 싶었음. 볼일이 있어서 본인이 매장에없으면 매장을 전반적으로 알고 손님 응대를 제대로 할 줄 아는 사람이 최소 한명은 있어야하지않나 싶다. 근처 다른라멘집 가려다가 자부심 넘치는 모습에 믿고 갔는데 근래 먹은 라멘중 제일 실망이었음.
맛만 보는 집맛만 보는 집
라멘 전문으로 하는 집 동대문역 10번 출구에서 도보 1분 거리에 위치. 돈코츠라멘 M사이즈는 13,000원이다. ​ 토핑 만땅~ 돼지 & 닭 사골, 멸치를 우려서 만든 라멘이라고 함. 재료만 보면 꽤 퓨전 느낌이 강하지만, 실제로 국물을 맛보면 토리파이탄에 가까운 맛이다. 의외로 돈코츠 특유의 진한 돼지 냄새나 니보시라멘의 강한 멸치 맛은 느끼지 못했다. 비 오는 날인데도 돼지의 꾸릿한 냄새는 매장 안에서 전혀 느끼지를 못했다. 라멘은 걸쭉하지만 비교적 무난한 국물 맛이었다. 면은 적당히 익어 거부감 없이 먹을 수 있었고, 특히 수비드 차슈와 함께 먹으니 잘 어울렸다. 라멘은 사이즈를 선택할 수 있는데, 나처럼 고기를 좋아한다면 고기 토핑이 많은 M사이즈가 가성비가 좋다. 다만 삼겹 차슈는 다소 뻑뻑해 끝까지 먹기는 아쉽다. 야들야들한 식감을 기대했지만 거친 장조림 느낌. 대신 수비드 등심 차슈는 부드럽고 맛이 괜찮은 편~ 크게 기대하지 않았는데 의외로 괜찮았다. ​ 매장 & 팁 & 총평 매장은 아담한 편으로, 벽을 마주 보고 둘러앉는 구조라 혼밥 하기 좋은 매장이다. 혼자 또는 두 명이 방문하기에 가장 적당하다. 테이블에서 주문하고, 계산은 나갈 때 카운터에서~ 그리고 현금이나 이체 결제 시 음료수를 준다고 한다. 방문 당시에는 오너 셰프?는 보지 못했고, 외국인 직원 두 분이 주방과 홀을 맡고 있었다. 라멘, 마제소바, 츠케멘, 야끼소바 등을 판매하며 사이즈별로 가격이 다른 점은 괜찮았다. 건물이 다소 허름해 깔끔한 느낌은 부족하지만, 일본 현지에서도 흔히 볼 수 있는 분위기라 크게 거슬리지는 않았다.

Perhaps the best Ramen I've ever had. The broth was so thick and delicious. The chashu was tender, almost falling apart. A little hard to find the place, but it was definitely a hidden gem. I would go back in a heartbeat.
