Craft Beer Khan — Restaurant in Seoul

Having a beer at Khan is like coming home. There are many styles of pubs in Korea. Most are designed for groups. What's more difficult to find is the cozy corner pub that you can wander into alone, take a seat at the bar and order a pint a beer. Khan is one of those rare places.

Craft Beer Khan is a comfortable basement bar tucked away in Yeonhui-dong with a small selection of around eight beers on tap. You'll find a few local brews (although the one thing you won't find is anything resembling any of the well known corporate Korean beers) and you'll also find a rotating selection of craft beers, usually from the US. Recent selections include Heretic Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, Lost Coast Alleycat Amber and Founders Porter. There's also a choice of bottled beer and alcoholic beverages. My personal favorite is Dancing Papa Cider. A dry apple cider brewed in Korea.

There's also a small selection of pub food available, pizza and fried chicken, to help soak up the alcohol.

It's the atmosphere that gives me the most pleasure. The bar is large enough to fit a few groups and still have a few small tables for couples, including room at the bar. It's a basement bar that doesn't open up until 6:00PM. The lighting makes the bar feel very comfortable and the owners are always friendly and welcoming.

To find it you have to go to Yeonhui-dong, which in itself is almost a secret location in Seoul. Yeonhui-dong is slightly north of Hongdae, but it's not along a subway line, so it's a hidden neighborhood that actually holds delicious food, coffee shops, clothing stores, bakeries, and much more, without the overwhelming crush of traffic and tourists.

The husband and wife team run this place single handedly. The New York wings are top notch, pizzas are delicious with American pepperoni, we also love the cheese/tomato pizza and the meat lovers.
