Tasty with the emphasis on crunchy rather than juicy. I don't speak Korean so was worried that the "seasoned chicken" wouldn't be fried, but it was the same as their fried chicken except with a gingery sweet sauce with seasame seeds sprinkled on. It was good but i don't know if it made the chicken better? It probably overpowered the other seasonings. The regular fried chicken was tasty without the sauce.
I came on a sunday at 6 and it quickly filled to 70% capacity. It was loud - a full house would probably be deafening.
The decor - think basement or garage. A little too grimey and gteasy for my preference. But the A/C was blasting on the muggy July day.
Portion size was ok - 17kw for a plate, for not quite a whole chicken. Being the overindulgent American that i am, i polished off a half fried/half seasoned order and a couple beers, but at the table next to me a 20somwrhing Korean couple split an order, although they ate a lot more of the daikon white kimchee and whatever the hell those tasteless tubular beer snacks they throw in for free.
The pieces are cut differently than in the US, they're a lot smaller and u won't find a complete thigh or drumstick or breast. If you've ever wondered where the rest of all those chicken breast sandwiches go, it's probably here.
Mostly a 20s and 30s crowd with a few exceptions and some families w kids.
Price was not low enough to qualify as a budget meal. And for about $15 bucks is not as good as American southern fried chicken, but it is different and worth a subway ride. Oh just be aware when looking at the map of exits at the station that the top of the map doesn't point north.
I didn't have the stuffed fried peppers but I'm here alone on a business trip and i can only eat so much. But a guy at the next table came in just for those.
Waitresses here are really hustling and mine was super friendly and went more than halfway to bridge the...
Read moreCompletely delicious fried chicken. The batter is mixed with some sort of herb that I really enjoyed. The chicken can be ordered plain or with spicy sauce. We got half and half. Both are really nice but I probably prefer it with the sauce. We didn't order the fried peppers because it would have been too much food but the couple next to us actually offered us one which completely made my day! Wow you have no idea how excited that made me. Sharing is so nice! yay! I can confidently confirm that the pork filled fried green peppers are also delicious.
The people working here were friendly. But also, if you don't drink beer here you will HAVE to order at least one - we tried to order two alcohol free beers and the waitress only let us order one.... for us it was fine, but I can see how this would offend...
Read moreHanchu's Korean fried chicken is expertly fried to achieve a crispy, golden-brown exterior that crackles with each bite. The coating is often seasoned with a blend of spices or sauces, adding layers of flavor and texture. Despite the crispy coating, the fried chicken remains incredibly juicy and tender on the inside. The meat is cooked to perfection, ensuring each bite is succulent and flavorful. They offers a variety of flavors to suit different tastes, from classic soy garlic and spicy to more adventurous options like honey butter and cheesy. Each flavor profile is well-balanced, providing a delightful combination of sweetness, tanginess, and heat.
Overall, Hanchu Korean fried chicken offers a delightful experience with its cozy and welcoming atmosphere, the vibrant decor and...
