Hannam Budaejjigae — Restaurant in Seoul

I visited the restaurant with my foreign friend, and we were served noticeably less rice—just up to the height shown in the photo—apparently because we’re foreigners and women.

The table right next to us was a group of men, and they were given bowls filled to the top. The staff even asked them if they had enough rice. We didn’t get asked anything.

It was the same dish at the same price, yet we were treated so differently.

As a Korean, I felt really embarrassed.

And honestly, it was the first time I’ve been given less food just because I’m a woman.

I understand they might have served less rice because they often have foreign customers who leave leftovers, but if that’s the case, shouldn’t the price be...

We were lucky to be able to eat in this very small and authentic restaurant last night and it was super delicious! You must order the same dish for everyone as it cooks on the table.
