From its extensively unique menu, calming atmosphere and beautifully crafted dishes, KwonSookSoo shows why it is so deserving of two Michelin Stars.
The chefs combined both modern and traditional methods of cooking, using both local and foreign ingredients. After a two month booking in advance and a trip from Australia, we decided we had to go for the 100,000 won set menu. Appetizers were plentiful, each with their unique texture, taste and fragrance. The waiter will ask you to taste them in a specfic order to not allow certain flavors to overpower others.
We didnt really like the cold bean soup with black truffle. The soup is served cold and quite thick, almost like a thick paste and the hints of truffle oil and truffle was too overpowering. However, they did give a very generous serving of sliced truffles.
The beef striploin was excellent!, deserving of its own Michelin. But be aware, ordering a medium steak will end up looking almost rare where a medium well steak will end up medium rare. The most popular choice is medium well.
Our culinary adventure lasted over 3 hours, ending in a series of petite fours literally bursting with flavour alongside a choice of freshly brewed teas. By the end, we were too...

As much as I love crab, my favorite dish was actually the cold bean soup. It was my first time tasting such a dish and considering how mild it was, it was surprising that it stood out so much. It just tasted very clean and comforting.
We ordered the beef striploin for my husband's main dish, while I had the lamb. I've had top-tier lamb and beef before and while the beef was right there as well, I can say this was the best lamb I've had. Truly fantastic.
Lastly, the service. Assistant Manager Hee-ra Shin (hope I got his name right) was superb. My husband is ambidextrous but prefers eating with his left hand. We never said anything but as the asst manager was setting up our utensils for the first dish, we immediately noticed that the cutlery's placement was to my husband's left. It really is the small things that can help differentiate good from great.

Read moreIt was a great experience to have more traditional Korean dishes in this Micheline star restaurant, caused quite a few other comparable restaurants were more on the fusion side. Presentation and quality of all the food were great & with quite a few nice surprises. I have to mention that the restaurant was very adamant about being on time, with multiple emails reminding us on that. We had a 7pm reservation, and with this type of set menu we totally expected not to be done by 10pm. Our waitress really rushed us for the last 15 minutes, although there were still others tables paying their bills. If they had such a strict closing time, they should also emphasize that on the multiple emails. They pre-packed our dessert ahead, & just told us in the last 15 minutes before closing we had to pretty much leave right away & pay our bill. We did not expect that from a Micheline star restaurant, & for that we most likely not going back when we...
