So this place is No 2 best restaurant in A Coruña according to Trip Advisor and the reviews on Google Maps are excellent to we were expecting great things.
We booked weeks in advance and when we arrived the evening was fully booked - another great sign.
From the moment we arrived the service was great. The ‘boss’ speaks excellent English and all the waiters were superb. I mean REALLY good service.
The food was frankly disappointing. The fish was not really cooked and my wife sent it back to be cooked a bit more. The sauce although apparently Galician was not to my wife’s taste. We told the boss and the waiters our views and they were superb and wanted to know why my wife didn’t like the dish. Very professional.
I love Rabo de Buey or Rabo de Toro or Oxtail. I went on a weeks paragliding course near Ronda for a week and ate the most amazing Rabo de Toro for 6 days! I even returned to the town a few months later just to eat that dish. The Rabo de Buey here was OK but not as good as I have eaten elsewhere.
So our experience might have been a one off. If we were given stars for just the food it would have been 2 but the service is superb. This must be a very good restaurant as it was packed with Spanish but our meal was not to the standard we were expecting. We have eaten much...
Read moreA great food experience! Highest recommendation. Very fair price.
At lunch time (15:00 Spain) the restaurant was full. Even I was solo and had no reservation, the waitress and owner made the effort to setup a table for me! Generally, all staff very friendly and attentive.
The room with about 60 seatings is modern and warm/cozy. It has tinted windows at three sides which let daylight in and allow to look outside at the old central city buildings around.
Food was of high quality, very tasty and satisfying. The Albariño wine was nice (try this type of wine when in Galicia). Bread was really good.
I had Sardine as starter: mild, on a sour purée with vinegar shallots (?). Very nice. As I was alone the owner said half a portion is sufficient, it was.
My main was a tender, fresh Salmonete fish with light crispy salty skin - one of the best fish I ever had. It came with a purée, crispy exotic potato slices and cray fish tartare.
As desert I took "French toast with Thai soup", as it sounded non conventional. It was superb: fluffy and perfectly caramelized. The soup (sauce) with lemon grass was very Thai. Perfect. Ah, yes and a passion fruit sorbet with tiny grumble.
A good espresso closed the fantastic, rememberable food experience. And I was not hungry when...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant today, drawn by the many excellent reviews and eager to try some good Galician cuisine here in “A Coruña” And I have to say, the food was truly delicious: dishes with intense, authentic flavors, prepared with care and high-quality ingredients. We would gladly give the food 5 stars without hesitation. Unfortunately, however, the service did not meet our expectations. The waiter who served us spoke extremely fast, almost as if he were reading from a script, without offering any recommendations or personalized suggestions. And even though I mentioned that we would have appreciated his input, he kept talking mechanically, just listing the names of the dishes. The most disappointing moment came when I tried to ask about the desserts, but I was briefly distracted with my daughter. Still, he went on reciting the list without pausing or adjusting to the situación and then simply walked away. At that point, we decided not to have dessert there and went elsewhere instead. That said, we want to highlight that the waiter who brought us our drinks was very kind and professional, as was the owner, who was very courteous and open to feedback. In short: excellent food, but the overall experience was affected by impersonal and...
