Alma del Sur — Restaurant in Alicante

This place is a hidden gem! A tiny unassuming restaurant serving some of the best fish we have ever tasted and served as fresh as it comes! Prepared right in plain view in the open plan kitchen with a total of two staff (who never stopped the entire time we were there) ....they definitely deserve a pay rise!! Our second visit, this time we were served by Rudy who, despite being incredibly busy was cheerful, patient and helpful. We had the hake, fish and chips and baby squid, together with a very nice local beer recommended by Rudy. I was even given a sample to try before hand. If you like fish then in my opinion this is a must try. It's a small venue so be patient because it's worth the wait! Even the potatoes were individually peeled, chopped and cooked to order. El testimonio de un nuevo cliente. Soy Philippe, brasileño, casado con un español. En realidad, un auténtico andaluz. O sea, un “alma del Sur”. Estoy de vacaciones en Alicante. Una ciudad alegre, positiva, llena de energía y buena gente. El último Martes, 08 de agosto, me fui al restaurante Alma del Sur. Estaba solo. Mi marido todavía no había llegado desde Suiza, donde vivimos. La experiencia que tuve en ese restaurante fue impecable. Tratamiento excelente. Comida excepcional. Ambiente tranquilo y acogedor. Ha sido todo tan bueno que volví el día siguiente, el Miércoles, 09 de agosto. El mismo camarero. Simpático. Educado. Alegre. Se acordaba incluso de detalles de mi visita el día anterior. Muy bien. Resulta que ha llegado mi marido, y decidí llevarle allí para que viviera la misma experiencia que yo y para que probara la comida. Resulta que ya no estaba el mismo camarero que me atendió el Martes y el Miércoles. Estaba otra persona en la barra hoy, el Viernes, 11 de agosto, por la noche. Y resulta que el tratamiento que recibimos fue completamente opuesto a todo lo bueno que yo había vivido ahí los días anteriores. Una mala leche. Un mal humor. Una mala educación. Una mala disposición en servir a los clientes - si, lo noté no solo conmigo, sino que con otras personas que estaban allí también. Un verdadero horror para mi que buscaba proporcionarle a mi marido una noche agradable en un restaurante de primera línea. Comimos rápidamente porque teníamos ganas de salir de ese ambiente. Y nos fuimos pronto a otro sitio donde disfrutamos con alegría y tranquilidad. Volveré al Alma del Sur? Seguramente. Pero desde la puerta averiguaré quién está en la barra. Y dependiendo de quien sea, doy la media vuelta inmediatamente. Les deseo éxito, mucho éxito. Pero ojo con todos los que sirven a sus...

Warm, genuine service and excellent seafood in a very charming cafe serving Andalusian fried fish specialties such as boquerones, beautifully tender cod, hake and calamare, as well as croquetas. Of special note is their Santa Barbara salad with goat cheese, a meal in itself and so good that we were back four times in one week to eat here!

Owners have an obvious passion for food and maintain high standards by using oil that is fresh and changed regularly, not to mention a small selection of sherry wine and a homemade vermouth that is 💯. Very few seats so plan to takeaway or...
