Only giving one star as no stars is not an option. I do not normally leave reviews but we were treated so disgustingly by the waitress that this needed raising.
We ate here for our last meal at the end of a really lovely time in Alicante. The experience was so horrific that it really made it a terrible ending to our stay.
Firstly we ordered sangria. The female waitress spoke to another waiter laughing as she told him the order. At this point we probably should have picked up on the fact that this was not going to be a pleasant experience, to say the least.
We ordered our food (4 tapas dishes and bread) and asked for just ham croquettes, the waitress confirmed this. The food was then brought out in dribs and drabs with a long wait in between each tapas dishes being put on the table.
First, the bread and Iberian ham arrived. The bread was dry panini bread cut in half and toasted and the ham was totally inedible. We spoke to the waitress and she said ‘no good’ we confirmed yet she walked off and the food was left on our table.
Some time after the croquettes arrived … squid and fish croquettes. We pointed this out and the waitress swiped them off the table, tutted and then said something to her colleague. The correct, but incredibly over- cooked, croquettes were then brought out by the other waiter. We asked him to take the ham away and explained that it was thickly cut and rubbery.
The fourth dish never arrived and by this point we’d had enough so asked for the bill. The bill was brought to us with the ham still on there as well as the dish that never arrived. We pointed this out, explaining that we were not paying €20 for a dish that was inedible and a dish that we never had. The bill was brought to us again, still with the dish that didn’t arrive on it. We again pointed out the mistake. The waitress swiped the bill from us and walked off without saying a word to us. She was then very clearly saying some unpleasant things about us to her fellow waiter. She then stormed back out and slammed our missing dish onto the table. We were absolute horrified by how rude she had been and said that we just wanted the bill and wanted to leave, she just glared at us in disgust and the other waiter took over.
This was not only our worst experience in Alicante but certainly the worst experience I have ever had dining out. Even with the poor food aside, the waitress was just so incredibly unprofessional and rude. We were actually left speechless that someone could treat paying customers like this.
Of course, following this experience I would definitely not recommend...
Read moreIt's a restaurant in the crowded tourist streets of Alicante and you would think that it's a tourist rip off place but quite the contrary. The service of the staff was amazing, very professional but at the same time so so kind. The food was also delicious, we had the garlic prawns, a salad and paella con mariscos (sea food) it tasted amazing! We also had tinto de verano which is in my opinion a better choice than sangria and it was the best tinto de verano i've tried. The restaurant was fully booked and the waiters still managed to serve each and every client without a lot of waiting time. I would like to point out one moment: since its tables are in the middle of this touristic street, burglars are common. One lady had her purse stolen but luckily people saw it just as it happened, and she managed to snatch it back but the waiters without a second thought rushed over to chase the guy along the streets and returned dead tired after 10 minutes! I think they showed him, i didn't understand at the moment what happened but it was amazing to see how much they cared. Please please always leave a tip bcos it's so...
Read moreA Proper Spanish Feast at Los Porrones, Alicante
Los Porrones is a fantastic spot if you’re after proper Spanish food in Alicante. It’s got a welcoming, rustic feel, the kind of place where you settle in and know you’re in for a great meal.
The paella here is outstanding—flavoursome, perfectly cooked, and packed with fresh local ingredients. You can tell they take real care in making it the traditional way, with just the right amount of saffron and the kind of depth you only get from a well-prepared stock. Whether you go for seafood, mixed, or something else, you won’t be disappointed.
Their wine list is just as impressive. A great selection of Spanish wines, from crisp whites to bold reds, all carefully chosen to go with the food. The staff are spot on with recommendations, so don’t hesitate to ask if you’re unsure what to pair with your meal.
The service is friendly and relaxed but professional, with a real passion for what they do. If you’re in Alicante and want a proper Spanish meal in a welcoming setting, Los Porrones is well worth a visit.
Highly...
