La Taberna Del Gourmet - El Corte Inglés — Restaurant in Alicante

Been here quite a few times now - lovely spot, relaxed and cosy, with genuinely friendly staff. Service has always been great. Figured it’s about time I shared some thoughts, because while loads of the food is bang on, there are a few dishes that could really use a rethink.

Standout dishes: The ‘bikini’ ham and cheese sandwich with black truffle; Salmon, burrata and avocado sandwich; Fillet steak sandwich - amazing bread (even better than the other sandwiches), and the steak is cooked just right; Tomato salad with burrata and arugula - fresh, and somehow they salt the tomatoes just right every time; Artichoke hearts with romesco - great flavours, though sometimes they leave a bit too much of the outer leaves; Thai organic chicken curry with jasmine rice; 65° egg with mashed potatoes, mushrooms, asparagus and truffle; Angus veal entrecôte with fries - and by the way, the fries are excellent - crispy, and properly seasoned; French toast with ice cream.

Now the not-so-great ones: Onion soup - honestly the worst I’ve ever had. Would have much preferred a more classic take on it; Aubergine, cheese and tomato sandwich; Sea bass with EVOO béarnaise and vegetables - bland and forgettable, didn’t really work as a dish; Meat cannelloni with béchamel and truffle - so much béchamel it was basically a béchamel dish with a bit of pasta thrown in, and the meat itself wasn’t great either; Fried aubergines with honey - really good idea, but insanely oily, which ruins it.

Overall: I really like this place and would recommend it - just wish they’d rethink a few dishes, because a lot of the food is genuinely great. Will definitely be back (just steering clear of the...

La Taberna del Gourmet at the Gourmet Experience in El Corte Inglés, Alicante, is much more than a restaurant—it’s our home away from home. And that’s thanks to Huzafa, the manager who was clearly born for this role. Warm, professional, tireless, and with the hosting instincts of a seasoned maître d' and a favorite uncle rolled into one.

Every visit, he treats us like family—and our 8-year-old son like absolute royalty (we’re talking “Your Majesty” levels of attention). It’s no wonder he thinks this is his kingdom now.

The food? Truly gourmet—fresh, creative, and always spot-on. And Huzafa’s team? Just as impressive. Friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do.

Desde luego que hoy no ha sido su día.. No era la primera vez q íbamos y le hemos dado a mi hijo el capricho de tomarse una tostada con jamón ibérico, q es algo q no pasa todos los días.. Us bien, al tomarnos nota, nos preguntan si queremos la tostada con tomate, a lo que decimos que no de forma muy rotunda, pero pese a ello, la tostada venía con tomate, y empapada por abajo en él, cosa que no hemos entendido. Hemos pedido que nos la cambien, y todo correcto, si bien era una tostada bastante pequeña aunque el jamón era de calidad. El resto hemos pedido tostada con aceite, y ha sido decepcionante, pues eran dos tostadas muy pequeñas, con un pan a la que le falta la mitad de la miga, y excesivamente tostado, por lo que hemos desayunado algo que se parecía más a las piedras (lástima de no haberle hecho foto). El aceite, botella grande proviniente de otra mesa, nada de monodosis (incomprensible). Los cafés, de muy baja calidad y muy cortos pese a haberlos pedido con hielo. Para rizar el rizo, al pagar (19 euros - lo esperable por donde estábamos -, por 2 cafes solos con hielo, dos tostadas con aceite, un vaso de leche con colacao y la tostada de jamón ibérico) me comentan que no se lee mi tarjeta del. Corte inglés (acababa de ver cómo la camarera pasaba por todas las mesas hasta el stand donde tenían un lector intentando limpiar la banda con la Parte trasera de su pantalón.. Cosa que sabemos es frecuente, pero queda muy feo y vulgar delante de toda la clientela, aparte de ser algo nada higiénico), me indican que deben hacerlo manualmente porque la banda debe estar estropeada.. Ninguna objeción por mi parte, ya que la Tarjeta tiene más de 20 años.. Pero cuando les Pregunto si en ese edificio hay punto de atención al cliente para solucionarlo me dicen q no, que es en el otro edificio... Nos vamos, lógicamente sin dejar propina y sin ganas de volver ante una atención tan pobre tratándose de la taberna del Gourmet, y nos Vamos a comprar una cosa que necesitábamos de telefonía... Con la tarjeta ocurre lo mismo, que no la lee bien, y al preguntarle a la Persona q nos atendía, nos dice que me La Pueden cambiar al. Momento, en esa misma planta (5°), sin necesidad de ir al otro edificio., ya que hay un punto de atención al cliente... Efectivamente, allí mismo me han dado un duplicado sin ningún problema... Con lo que mi conclusión es que en la taberna o bien no forman correctamente al personal, o que el personal no se toma en serio a cada cliente que atiende... Porque desde luego, atención.. Cero. Que no nos...
