Absolutely incredible evening at this must visit restaurant. 10/10 all around. How is this place 5th in Alicante? It should be number 1!!!
We learnt that Pelego opened only three months ago and wow do they have something special here.
I want to add that we have eaten out in a few places in Alicante in search for a perfect evening. We have found that even restaurants with 4.7 stars on Google reviews have been less than average, but we were determined to find something special in the area. This is it. My partner travels the world with work and eats in the best places. Even he said that this is a memorable one.
We were greeted so pleasantly and the staff spoke English which really helped us and made us feel at ease (our Spanish is not the best and they were very patient with us).
The ambience and atmosphere is so relaxed and yet romantic. Perfect for us having a date.
We started with the cornbread after seeing rave reviews online. This wasn't a bread as we thought it would be, but was actually perfectly cooked meat which was sliced and could be dipped in a corn type pureed sauce. When I say this was phenomenal... Just wow and we would order this again with zero hesitations (like the rest of the menu).
For the mains we had entrecote 300g steak which was cooked to perfection, the octopus with sweet potato puree (delicious) and the tomato side which was very big and enough for 2 people.
The kitchen staff caught eyes with us for a brief moment as we fell in love with the food so we shared from the table how fantastic it was. It meant a lot that the wanted to see us enjoying the food.
To finish we had the lemon tart and the dulce dolly (a caramel and cream dessert). We also had a glass of port to follow and contemplated doing it all again.
The staff were fantastic and basic things like drinks being topped up and table being cleaned between courses was spot on. They made every effort with us to get to know us but allowing us the space we needed for our romantic evening for two.
It's a shame that they are closed on Sunday and Monday as we are leaving Alicante on Monday. Otherwise, we genuinely would book again. Everyone needs to visit! Thank you to the team for providing us with a perfect night.
Thank you to the team! We can't keep this to ourselves as much as we want to, and we will be recommending this...
Read morePelego was amazing! From the food to the service to the atmosphere, we had an incredible time. Gaston, our server, was so kind, funny, and thoughtful. His English was great, which was helpful as our Spanish is not great.
For starter, you must try the lamb croquettes and the homemade criollo sausage. For salad, we opted for the Olimar which was so light and fresh! For main, the Pluma with mango salsa is out of this world, and the Pelego (house) simmental cut was maybe the best steak we’ve ever had. Don’t forget to try the roasted pepper as a side - it is truly delicious. To top it off everything was very well priced! We ate like kings without breaking the bank!
Overall, this meal was the best we had in Alicante and on the southern coast of Spain! We would go back again and...
Read moreVery enjoyable dinner with excellent quality meat and very tasty empanada to start. Good selection of wines from a few different countries to accompany your meal. The staff team is really well trained and very attentive to service and are doing it with a smile and genuine warmth. In peak seasons or days, the tables are in high demand at dinner time. So you may need to check how much time is available to dine when you are seated or making your reservation, if you are in an earlier dining time than the normal 10pm or 10:30pm Spanish dinner time. This will avoid you taking things slowly and then feeling like you are being rushed if there is demand for your table after your allocated time. Very enjoyable dinner and well done to the...
