Carmencita Brunch Alicante — Restaurant in Alicante

Fantastic!!!! I speak here as an American living in Spain. I love Spain and Spanish food. But often "brunch" in Alicante is just.... not. Until now. This place is so so so wonderful. It's the flavors and heartiness of the Americas with the charm and tranquility of the Mediterranean. And no reggaeton in morning, just easygoing classic soulful music at a reasonable volume so you can actually have a conversation. Portions are brunch portions so be forewarned. It's a meal that is two meals in one so it's supposed to be filling. Coffee is good and the water brought to the table as service is such a welcome touch. The food itself was generally fine, but the drinks were a disaster. I ordered an iced chai latte, and it was honestly the worst one I’ve ever had. It cost €4 but was basically just cold water, ice, and a tea bag - nothing actually brewed or prepared the way you’d expect. I definitely didn’t expect it to come from a simple tea bag, especially for a place that tries to look fancy. The flavor was extremely weak, almost like someone had previously made a chai latte in the same glass and then just added water. Really unpleasant. As for the food, we ordered the El Chad. After dropping my husband off at the airport I thought I'd venture into Alicante for breakfast rather than come back into the Campo. What an absolutely delightful find. I'm a huge Benedict fan and this place does it like no other, the portions were huge but I managed. All the rest of the food coming from the kitchen looked amazing, the waiter was friendly and engaging which always adds to a great experience.
