Well, where to start. There was wine but no smiles. No smiles from the waiter and sadly no smiles from me. I was recommended to come by a local man. He did mention that it was modern but he very much under played that one. The place was empty at the start and end of my meal yet he demanded that I sit on the little table by the bar. It was OK. The house white (there didn't appear to be a choice ) was drinkable. He brought bread without asking and then charged me for it at the end, it was like white toast, I had only one bite. He took my order and laughed to himself(I wondered what the surprise would be) ah this must be the smiles!!! I ordered a goats cheese volcano with a strawberry sauce. (I know what was I thinking) well it was a whole goats cheese on a galette with said sauce. However the massive cheese was cold and the only volcanic action was the pool of strawberry jam. I ate two mouthfuls and pushed it to oneside. The waiter was not bothered. I notice the same dish in the pictures cooked and melting. For my main course I had the pigs cheeks. They were swimming in a pool of mashed potatoes and covered in matchstick fries. Yes the crisp fries were sat on the wet mash/sauce. The meat was tasty and well cooked but had the colour and texture of beef. The sauce was flavoured with leeks but was glupy from the over worked potatoes. I didn't risk dessert. The place was soulless which for a place so clutted is a surprise. It was not clean, I was not bothered by the flies as they were content with the grime in the texture on the vinyl table covering. In conclusion, the food was poorly cooked and poorly conceived. The place was under cared for and not clean. The staff didn't care. I am also disappointed to be be charged for bread I didn't order and for tap water. I did not leave a tip other than the critique above. I hope the owners take heed as it may save their business, as the...

We found La Gastrobodega "Vinos y Risas" a bit off the main promenade, not one of the flashy tourist spots, but a small, local restaurant tucked away in a quieter street. And it turned out to be one of the best meals we had in Spain.
We tried a few different rice dishes (not paella, but similar regional specialities), I don’t even remember the exact names, but every single dish was absolutely delicious. Full of flavour, beautifully cooked, and clearly made with care.
The place felt very authentic and local, which we really liked. The waiter, an older gentleman, didn’t speak English, but we managed with a bit of Spanish and hand gestures. He might not have smiled much, but he got the job done and the service was fine.
If you're looking for great Spanish food away from the tourist traps, this is your spot. Highly...
Read moreA superb restaurant located in the city center. Minutes from the Esplanada and the Postiguet Beach. Both indoor and outdoor seating.
Fabulous menu options from both an a la carte list and a prix fix list which includes a bottle of wine for two. Wonderful combinations of meat, fish and chicken with a variety of spectacular sauces and finishes. The bacalao is fabulous as well as is the camembert cheese selection. All recipes are created by the owner family. Just superb.
Beautiful ambience interior and very pleasant outdoor setting on a side passage. The wait staff are friendly and attentive.
Be prepared for a delightful Spanish...
