Stopped here for some food after walking, and saw all the amazing looking pastries on display!
I had the classic bacon brioche benedict which was very nice. Loads of lovely well cooked bacon, a lot of tasty hollandaise sauce, 2 good poached eggs and really nice brioche underneath.
My wife had the mixed crepe (ham/cheese) Although the crepe itself was nice there was barely any ham or cheese inside (see photo) so was very disappointing and not really pleasant to eat as mostly it was just pancake on its own.
My coffee milkshake (as described on the menu) was really an icy drink with cream on. It all tasted very watery and without much flavour. Interestingly it said 'frappe' on the receipt, but it wasn't really a frappe either as it didn't taste blended. Definitely was not a milkshake!
While we were eating, the waitress came over to give our bill to pay whilst we were mid-bite which all felt very rushed. I was given the card machine without even having a chance to review that the bill was correct. Then once I paid she was going to take the bill away without me even seeing it! (We noticed them doing this to other tables as well so wasn't just for us, but all seems rushed and rude and unlike any of the relaxed nice service we've had in loads of other cafes in Alicante)
There are so many lovely cafes/restaurants in Alicante so not sure I could justify coming...
Read moreI rarely write negative reviews, but what we’ve experienced during several visits to this café has been very disappointing.
Although many tables were available, we (a group of 5) had to wait at the entrance for more than ten minutes. The woman managing the entrance walked past us several times without acknowledging us at all. Only after we actively asked did we finally get a table – and even then, it was a small one meant for no more than four people. So why the long wait when half the tables were clearly empty?
She was also extremely unfriendly. I noted her name but have decided not to mention it – even though her behavior was unacceptable, I don’t want her to face personal consequences.
To make matters worse, the ordering process this time was chaotic and impolite.
So why did we keep coming back? Simply because the food – especially the cakes and pastries – is genuinely delicious, and my kids love it. That is, when you actually get what you ordered. But even that isn’t worth it anymore.
Today was the final straw: we won’t be coming back.
It’s a shame that great taste doesn’t go hand in hand with...
Read moreUnfortunately we just had a bad experience at Santa Gloria / my original review was 5 ⭐️ - but I’m lowering it to one. We have been coming here, both when on vacation, as well as for the past month when we recently moved here. My partner has a service dog and there has never been an issue with our dining indoors. Today, we were approached by a waitress, who we haven’t seen before, who called the manager over who then told us we could not dine there - only seeing eye dogs allowed! We live in the neighborhood and have never had this issue before. Yes, some restaurants do question us but when they realize that it is a service dog we are welcomed and given an apology for questioning us. Here at Santa Gloria we were not only yelled at and “disciplined” but embarrassed in front of the entire restaurant. Perhaps there needs to be a better training of the staff as to what determines a service animal and why they need to accompany their owners. We would love to return, but only once we receive a response from the owner of this establishment. AS OF AUGUST 22 - still no response from...
