We came in on a Thursday evening. There were three other tables in the entire restaurant. We were seated outside, and the ambiance was was pleasant. I ordered a glass of rose, and the pour was very meager, definitely not the usually 4 or 5 ounce and double the price at a casual restaurant. Our first course of king prawns and bread was delicious, but our mains were extremely salty - even after the first bite. We should've sent it back, but we didn't think of it at the time (we usually try to just go with it). We could barely get through our dishes. We each had left about 60% of our plate. When the waitress eventually came by, we told her about the saltiness of the food. She was somewhat apologetic but did nothing to ameliorate the situation, which was disappointing for a fancier restaurant - no gesture from her, the manager, or the kitchen to fix this botched meal. For a meal that cost over 100 Euro for two, it was a big disappointment. We recommend caution to other potential patrons, and if the food was not edible, to send it back to the kitchen. By the time we left, there was only one other table - maybe others had similar experience? Not sure how it got a 4.7 star. We will not...
Read moreI was on the hunt for a restaurant where I could surprise my wheelchair-bound boyfriend with a dinner. After sifting through several "popular" options that were either too crowded or lacked accessibility, I stumbled upon this gem.
A week in advance, I phoned to inquire about accessibility and the possibility of arranging for extra table decorations, perhaps something special like balloons. Without any hassle, they organized everything and charged only a nominal fee for the service.
The restaurant itself is spacious and not at all overcrowded. It was serene and quiet when we arrived right after opening. The staff was absolutely incredible, going out of their way to ensure my boyfriend had the best experience possible. We were seated in a cozy corner, perfect for a romantic dinner. For dessert, they serenaded him with "Happy Birthday" and presented us with a complimentary cake to share.
The food was outstanding. I wholeheartedly recommend the fried cheese and salmon. We definitely plan to return here for another meal after such an exceptional experience.
A heartfelt thank you for making my boyfriend's...
Read moreWe had a mixed experience at Avangard. The outside dining area was very smart and things started well. Our waiter was kind and indulged me by speaking Spanish to help with my wish to practice the language. He recommended an excellent Chardonnay too. However, the bread we ordered was so stale we could hardly break the rolls. Ice Hockey might have been a better use for them. Another waiter who may have been a supervisor changed them but they were no better.
My wife ordered pasta with spinach and salmon. There was no discernable spinach in the dish so I pointed it out to the supervisor. He reponded by frowning and shining his phone torch onto the meal and we peered into the creamy sauce. We debated whether the dark specks were evidence of spinach. This was embarrassing to say the least. He offered a new version but we declined.
My soup and Amberjack fish courses were reasonably good.
Sadly the experience left a bitter taste in our mouths and it wasn't...
