Honestly, I'm a huge fan of Thai food. I know it very well and can cook it to a fairly high level of authenticity. That being said, I was not impressed by most of the dishes out group of 4 received. I tasted all the dishes by their request because they wanted my somewhat knowledable opinion.
The food, The Tom Yum and Tom Ka soups were underwhelming in flavour delivery, and the taste profiles were not correct, to put it bluntly. The ingredients however seemed to all be present.
The green curry was very sweet, and more coconut milk 'white' as apposed to green curry paste 'green'. Im not sure if they soften the intensity for the western palate, but it was not acceptable in terms of its overall taste.
The Satay Chicken was excessively salty, and lacking the classic char and colour it deserves. Besides the saltiness, and lack of colour, it was nicely tender, and presented a good overall flavour.
The fresh spring rolls were well filled, but loosely rolled. All in all they were enjoyable, with a sweet chillie dipping sauce, and a Nuoc Cham vietnamese dipping sauce, if Im not mistaken. We all enjoyed these rolls.
The Pad Krapow Gai, being my absolute favourite Thai dish was unimpressive, and definately not as it should be. Again, lacking that depth of flavour, watery sauce, and not much thai basil, which makes this particular dish as famous as it is. The spice level was very soft, almost absent, although it was ordered as 'medium'. Once again, likely dialed back for the westerners. Also, I must add, the chicken was not minced, but rather was thin chunks of chicken, not very authentic.
We also had a noodle salad which was tasty. The portion was adequate, and the noodles were well cooked. Overall it was an enjoyable dish.
For dessert we shared a Mango sticky rice. The rice was perfect, the mango was actually a bit young and not as sweet as it typically would be. The sauce was sweet enough to level the plate out. Served with cream and ice cream. It was missing the crunchy fried salty mung bean to top it all off, which kind of adds that final element to the dessert. Overall it was pretty good, but not quite complete in its actual taste.
Now, the service. We didn't feel all that welcome at first. When we asked which beers were available we were told that we could find out by looking in the menu. Okay, fair enough. But as far as making a first impression on a client, probably not the right approach. Furthermore because it was said with an amount of 'obvious rudeness'- at least we felt it, but no grudges were held, and the rest of the service was okay, and civil, with some politeness involved.
The setting is fine, doesnt scream Thai, but its adequately clean.
If you decide to visit this restaurant you'll need to pay in cash as there is no card facility. You wont find that information in the menu, nor with the waitress, but written on a piece of paper near the entrance. No worries, but it's probably an idea to make your guests knowledgeable of that issue, so they can go to withdraw money before the time to make payment arrives.
Unfortunately I don't have photos to show the lack of colour of the curry, the 1 or 2 missing elements to the other dishes, or the overall setting of the restaurant. It was never my intention to put a review, and the food nor service was necessarily one I'd have wanted to capture to remember on a...
Read moreGood Thai food here! Not ground breaking but definitely a good introduction to the kitchen and enough to love for those who are already familiar.
We started out with Tom Kha Kai, which is a bit different from the one we're used to, but that's only to say it's a welcome change. Big slice of ginger tripped me up, but the soup was fantastic.
Next the sateh, served on lettuce with sateh sauce with bits of peanut and a slightly acidy but smooth salad dressing with bits of onion and cucumber. The chicken was perfectly well done and soft to the bite.
We then had the duck curry with pineapple and cherry tomatoes and veggies - some of them whole! It was a feast. The duck was delicious and cooked to perfection; the fatty edge really brought it home and the tangy-sweet flavour of the pineapple perfectly complemented the rest of the dish.
The paneng curry with pork was lovely, slightly creamy and well garnished. Both curries were well balanced with regards to the vegetables; they didn't just toss in a lot of cheap veggies but actually cared about what they put in the dish.
The server was slightly fidgety, and we felt like we had to reassure him he was doing a good job. It didn't bother us; he did fine, he just needs to relax...
Read moreJust had lunch here and was probably our favourite in nearly 2 weeks of being in Tenerife. The lunch set menu for just under 10 euros is extremely reasonable and the portion sizes are perfect.
The food is presented well, tastes delicious and there is a wide variety of choices. We both had pad Thai and that was what made us both agree it was the best lunch we've had if not the best meal.
Only here for another 2 days but going to try and fit in another trip. Definitely definitely add it to your list as a must visit!
Very minor gripe, the menu is online via QR Code but the website does not work very well and drinks menu does not load. They may wish to double check this and port it to a free website builder such as Google Sites just to make it easier for...
