My boyfriend and I went to dinner last night at 99 Sushi Bar. Many friends had recommended this restaurant to us, and everything was great until we tried the pez mantequilla nigiri. We ordered two pieces each. After eating the first piece, both my boyfriend and I noticed a prickling, needle-like sensation in the mouth. I didn’t think much of it at first, assuming maybe there was some chili, so I ate the second piece. This time, the needle-like feeling returned even stronger, followed by a burning sensation on my lips, which then went numb. At that point, my boyfriend decided not to eat his second piece. We spoke to the management, who apologized, found the situation odd, thought maybe was an allergy and didn’t charge us for the nigiri. The numbness in my lips lasted for several hours, and neither of us slept well in the night. I also experienced stomach cramps and nausea all day today. I’ve eaten pez mantequilla nigiri at many restaurants (it’s one of my favorites) and have never had this reaction before. While the rest of the food was excellent, you don’t expect food intoxication at such a high-end restaurant.
We won’t...
Read moreIt shouldn't be called a sushi bar.
It's a Japanese fusion restaurant with 80% fusion 20% japanese. I would call it Japanese inspired restaurant.
It's a very trendy spot. Very busy for lunch even on a rainy day. The food is probably top 5 most expensive non Michelin star restaurants I've ever been to in Barcelona.
Miso soup - €11.50best way to describe it is truffle cream mushroom soup with a bit of miso.
Okonomiyaki - €30.20 I have to admit I was very excited when I saw it on the menu and was full of questions why it would have red tuna on it. It's far from okonomiyaki. It's a tortilla at the bottom with some sauce and tuna on top. Okonomiyaki what??
The spider rolls - 28.40 frankly I couldn't eat it.
Shrimp tempura salad - 34.40 it was quite good actually but it's a Chinese way of cooking and far far far from being tempura.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who's looking for Japanese food. Even for fancy and fusion japanese. It has very little trace of japanese...
Read moreThe worst customer service experience I ever had in a restaurant. We went for lunch, there were only three other tables that were occupied, a total of 6 customers in the restaurant with two servers and a manager/ maitre’d. After a delay while the servers and maitre’d were chatting and joking someone came to take the order. We ordered a second bottle of water which came when I asked for the check. It took me 10 minutes to get the attention of the two servers and maitre’d to request for the check and that was only when I got off the table and walked to the spot where all three were standing and chatting. It took them another 10 minutes to get my check and another delay while they were chatting to get the credit card machine to the table. The meal itself was mediocre. To those who are looking for a good Japanese restaurant try Parco where the food is 100 times better and the service is spot on. Disgusting experience. I sincerely hope the folks who own the restaurant...
