The best place in Barcelona where we were. Normally we go only in places with 4+ reviews, so Bar Cal Chusco was one of such places. At first I was pretty sceptical, because the place is small and was fully booked, but we decided to wait for a free table. And this was our best decision. The place is not big, but very authentic and has its atmosphere of Spain and Barcelona. From what we understood its a family business that is why this place become more unique. When we were there owners of the bar were hosting their friends, so there were lots of talks, laughs between them, and because of this we had so wonderful time. We were watching the real Barcelona with their people. Staff is very polite and friendly. They will help you with everything. The food. It is one of the best meals in our life. We ordered paella with lobster and we did not regret. We spent around 40-50 euro there for paella and fantas. Now we want to come back to Barcelona because of this place. Highly recommended ❤️ P.s. don’t forget to order small cup of coffee after your lunch. It was perfect. (On the photo is a small part of paella that we had)
Thank you a lot...
Read moreWe came here on a Saturday night for dinner around 9PM and were asked if we had reservations, we did not, but got seated quickly.
The servers were kind, and we order 2 Sangrias, Spicy snails, Rabbit rice dish, and cream cheese dessert.
All were delicious, but of course taste is always subjective.
The Sangrias were strong, but good. By the end of the night, it seemed everyone in the restaurant was quite tipsy, we watched a few couples stumble out quite drunk. We opted to not finish ours completely, as to not stumble down the street.
The Rabbit rice was delicious, albeit a bit salty, we definitely had to order some water to counter the sodium. The texture was good, and the flavor was very prominent. It there was a little less salt, it would’ve been perfect.
The Spicy snails were delicious, but not spicy at all. It was our first time trying snail and we enjoyed it.
And the cream cheese dessert, we think had passionfruit that gave it a really good tart sweet balance with the almond crumble.
Overall between the two of us, we spent 56 Euros, tip/service...
Read moreOn another Tapas crawl in Barceloneta and finally was here at the right time to catch Chusco open and it didn’t disappoint. In Spain, if you walk into a bar and it has a slot machine, then you know it definitely caters for locals. I had some croquettes and bacalao. The croquettes have just the right amount of crunch, followed by a comforting creamy filling, accentuated by pockets of jamon, chorizo or peppers (depending on your choice). The bacalao was everything you want, the crunch followed by that slightly salty, textured filling. The house vino blanco was dry and match perfectly with the richness of the deep fried delights I tried. They also paella and a lobster rice stew that I will be back for...
