Hands down best vegan restaurant we've been to outside of Berlin. It can be hard to find good vegan options in towns not known for their vegan food, so our expectations were well exceeded by this place.
The food is amazing, creative, and simply curated. I wish I'd taken pics on our first visit. Yes, you read that correctly. During a very short 36 hour trip to Barcelona, we chose to eat here twice. Pictured here from our 2nd visit is the vegan nachos. I was literally craving them all day. On our first visit we had hummus, sobrasada, kimchi mayo fries, and these delicious nachos. Everything we tried was incredible. The flavor profiles were delicate and well balanced. The sobrasada had a perfect hint of heat. I've never had the non-vegan version of this, but being from Texas I've definitely had chorizo. Isabel's sobrasada definitely gave me the smokey spicy vibes of a good chorizo.
Also because we're from Texas but now living in Berlin, we crave nachos and tacos constantly. There's nothing comparable in Berlin. Our craving for good nachos runs deep, and these nachos at LaPerraVerde fed our cravings twice over.
Our server on the first night seemed to be quite invested and passionate about their offerings, so it wasn't surprising to learn she was the owner. Isabel has put so much of her heart and love into each of these creations. Isabel, we think you should be very proud of what you've built here.
The place is small-ish, yet there was space for everyone to sit comfortably while we were there. My wife is a bigger woman, so we always appreciate seating options that can accommodate variation in size. She was also very comfortable here.
Another thing to note: we were on an extremely tight budget for this last minute trip. The prices here were the reason I chose it the first night. Not being on the main drag, i.e. not just for tourists, and likely also the integrity of our gracious host, the prices were exactly as expected when it came time to pay, and more than fair. I'd even think they could increase their prices a bit, but not before we come back to sample the rest of the menu!
We will definitely be back. Our experience at this one little local vegan spot was a big part of us deciding that Barcelona is now our fave city in Europe, knocking Rome out of the top stop. See you...
Read moreWent for dinner with one other vegan and two non-vegans. Service and vibe were excellent. Overall we all found the food disappointing. Not bad, but not great either. We had: olives — those were great smoky tomato spread — the dip itself was quite good but the crostini were super dry. Might be better as the sandwich. Sweet potatoes — didn’t realize they would be sweet potato fries, was expecting roasted or grilled or seared halves/wedges/cubes. Never would have ordered if I realized it as just fries…the addition of lime mayo is nice, but nothing noteworthy and not enough to elevate the dish. Cauliflower popcorn — very meh. Potato omelette — not really reminiscent of an omelette except in shape. It’s a potato casserole, basically. A little dry and crumbly but otherwise fine. Caesar salad — most importantly, the dressing did not have any of the umami sea-forward flavor of a Caesar. And the lettuce was shredded which is a weird choice for anything other than a wrap. The rest of it was good, including a generous portion of avocado and pickled onion.
I gather they are relatively new so hopefully the food can be improved. As it stands now, would not...
Read moreMy girl and I have always wanted to try a vegan tapas so we were excited to try this venue. The service from the English speaking waitress was fine, but eventually, we felt like we'd been forgotten, as some other large groups turned up. We waited around 20 minutes, hoping to order a desert and some table water, but ended up giving up and asking for the bill, which was a bit steep for a small pile of fried cauliflower, three meatballs, and two croquettes. Maybe it was the bottled water they serve at €2.50 a glass. I also whacked my head pretty hard on the ceiling lights that hang a few inches over the chairs and table we were sat at, so perhaps this is something they might look at changing for the future. We understand that tapas is small portions but the price was piling up just after three selections and we left a little...
