Terrible Service and Discrimination at Can Majó Restaurant

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Can Majó Restaurant, especially due to the way they treated us as Asian customers. The food was mediocre at best, but the service was shockingly poor. Here are a few examples of what happened:

When we were seated, the manager told us we had to finish by 3:00 pm. I initially understood, thinking they might close for a break, but later realized they continued to serve other customers well after 3:00 pm without any issue.

We ordered at 2:00 pm and got our first course, a salad and some seafood, at 2:13 pm. However, the main course took forever to arrive – it wasn't served until 2:57 pm, a full 45 minutes later. Meanwhile, the table next to us, which ordered the same seafood dish, was served much earlier.

When the main course finally arrived, I hadn't even taken a bite when a server came over and asked if I was done. It felt like the kitchen staff had intentionally singled us out to rush us through our meal.

One of the older servers only spoke to us in Spanish. At first, I assumed she didn’t speak English, which I was fine with, but I later overheard her having conversations in English with other guests. For some reason, she only used Spanish with us.

Finally, after waiting so long and being frustrated with the slow service, we asked for the bill. It was only then that they decided to bring our food, and by then the lobster was cold. It felt like the kitchen had deliberately delayed serving us.

I was genuinely confused and hurt by the unprovoked hostility. It's hard to understand why a stranger would show such malicious behavior for no apparent reason. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if you expect to be treated with...

This was my night to indulge in some tasty and authentic seafood paella. After countless hours of tiresome research, and a recommendation from a local, Can Majó won the vote. The service was very friendly and they even sat us 30 minutes before our reservation. The seafood paella was pretty damn good. The rice was seasoned just right. It was a seafood congregation of mussels, clams, prawn, shrimp, and a lobster on top. The lobsters beady eyes almost begging me to indulge. I would have to say the price included the experience and atmosphere as well, which I’m sure is common in the seafood restaurants of Barceloneta. What really won me the most browny points with my girlfriend had to have been the Crema Catalan. It was delicate and sweet under the surface. An ocean of bliss hidden under a thin and crisp sheet of caramelized sugar. The “cookie” reminded me of a homemade waffle cone from the local ice cream shop your parents might have rewarded you with after a school year of straight A’s and B’s and minimal detentions....

Ordered the Valencian lobster paella, service was very polite and understanding, unlike what many others have said about this place. The paella was very good flavor-wise, just a bit too salty and oily, lobster was a bit on the chewy side and kind of dry. The rice was cooked perfectly and they even gave us a free appetizer (tempura vegetables). Food didn't take long to come out (though we were the first guests to arrive so maybe that helped). Overall the food was indeed great, but considering we paid 62 euros for the dish, I expected the highest quality lobster available in Barcelona, and I believe I could have gotten a similarly great dish elsewhere for half the price. The location is great and the terrace seating was very comfortable. Three stars only because I was expecting a truly gourmet, next-level experience, and the end result was just above average, and not insanely good as I had hoped for our final meal in Barcelona that we wanted...

Very amazing and welcoming hosts who got us seated right away. We got an inside seating and the AC inside was very refreshing to say the least. They were very kind in responding to our emails as well and were very very accommodating. Jairo was amazing and was our host for the noon. He got our orders evenly spaced out and as well kept checking on our needs and as well replaced our plates and silverware in the midst to make sure we got to taste the prawns and the octopus afresh. We ordered only the starters as we were late into our lunch and had an early dinner scheduled for the evening. We got the Zucchini carpaccio with cheese , garlic carbinero prawns and galician style octopus with potato slices and the pardon peppers. Delicious would be an understatement and these starters were to die for. Made perfect in balance and harmony amongst the ingredients and the spices and very very very fresh. Do give them a try and thank me later!!
