¡! With top honors ¡!

It’s not the typical rating for a restaurant, but “Can Ugal” is not a typical restaurant...

Located in a central area of Barcelona and not surrounded by other restaurants or leisure spots, this restaurant emerges, guided by true professionals of the industry, turning an experience like dinner (in our case) into a moment of genuine well-being and gustatory pleasure.

Of everything we, the four diners, had for dinner, I recommend sharing dishes to experience more flavors. I would particularly highlight two of them, although I should really give them all a space in this review, but it would be too long... They would be a main course like “Lleida Beef Loin” and a dessert “Vanilla Flan with Chantilly Cream.”

About the main course, I’ll just say, being quite a meat lover, that I had never tasted such good meat and surely it’s because it was very, very well prepared in my entire life... Nothing to envy from other meats with much more fame and name. Regarding the dessert... as it is served with “chantilly,” I’ll say it in French... “Chapeau.”

And as it couldn’t be otherwise, we accompanied it all with some wonderful wines recommended by the excellent restaurant staff.

As you could observe, typical dishes but made with quality products and with such sublime preparation knowledge that sometimes it is better “the typical” than some other “fusion” dishes.

I just have to thank all the restaurant staff as each of them in their task is a 10.

Julian, the owner of the restaurant, is an individual who is very passionate about food and the quality of service - his personality alone is enough to draw you back into this establishment.

The food was amazing, I would highly recommend the bluefin tuna with mashed potatoes (pictures below) if you are a fan of seafood. The sauce complements the mash potatoes and together with the tuna the flavors come together really well.

The dessert was too good, everyone in the store tells you to get the flan, with good reason, because it’s the best flan in a 500 mile radius. The french toast with the ice cream was also great.

All in all, you won’t regret...

En la continua búsqueda de nuevos sabores o restaurantes que proponen fusiones de cultura y comidas extraordinariamente novedosas y con explosión de sabores a veces hay que pararse y volver a los básico pero con productos excepcionalmente de calidad y una preparación y presentación selecta. De todo esto trata can Ugal. Si tuviera que resumirlo en pocas palabras justo diría esto: "Productos excelsos elaborados con arte". Os voy a contar por detalles todo lo que pude degustar a partir de una ensaladilla rusa con un huevo frito por encima unas croquetas de jamón , anchoas del Cantábrico, pies de cerdo deshuesados crujientes , caracoles con salsa y butifarra del perol de entrantes para compartir. Como platos principales compartimos un lomo bajo de vaca frisona de Lleida que desde mi punto de vista fue lo mejor de la noche y una vaca que aún no siendo ni Gallega ni de Girona es sin duda una de las mejores carnes que he comido en mi vida , y tengo 53 años. Ni asados argentinos ni cortes brasileño está fue una obra de arte cocinada a la perfección. Y otro plato que compartimos fue un arroz a la cazuela mar y montaña que de nuevo nos sorprendió por su sabor. Antes de pasar a los postres hay que mencionar que bebimos un gran vino blanco chardonney francés y otro garnacha blanca. Los postre nos fueron sugeridos y muy acertados un torrija con helado de vainilla y un flan que a diferencia de todos los otros flan que he probado estaba buenísimo. Que decir de la atención del jefe de sala , del somellier y de uno de los dueños del restaurante Víctor que ya conocimos en otra ocasión en otro restaurante. Al final también pudimos conocer el chef al que nos congratulamos por su tremendo y buenísimo trabajo. Un 10/10 en una zona de Barcelona céntrica pero fuera del circuito clásico de restaurantes y que sin duda recomiendo a todos los que quieren volver a lo básico sin despreciar la calidad y...
