El Atril — Restaurant in Barcelona

We met the owner Brendan while hanging out in the plaza. He told us about the kangaroo taco and I had to try it. I can't believe kangaroo is not more widely available! It is lean, wild, tender, and slightly sweet. It was the best red meat I have ever tasted. Seriously.

If that's not your thing, the patatas bravas were amazingly crispy outside and creamy inside, with a generous smear of brava sauce on top. The ceviche was perfectly balanced between acid, cilantro, and soft fish. The grilled pimientos were nicely salted and tender. Overall, I was really impressed with the cooking technique for a casual tapas joint like this.

Sit outside! The plaza is the best part of the experience. A true oasis in this trendy, touristy area. The local "musicians" are just having a good time. Give them a 50 cent coin if they are busquing, and share a beer from the local deli with them on the benches...

I’m living on the corner and since the food is nice, I wish I would love to come back more often. First time inside the restaurant I was with 3 friends, ordered after half an hour. and 1 hour?! later we got finally our drinks. We ordered a bottle, received a glass. Didn’t want to say anything because can happen and most of all we already waited or an hour. 2 weeks later I was on terrace. Never had such a bad service in my life. The terrace was half full, the waitress didn’t saw us, we were waiving a lot of times. Helped people who arrived later earlier than us. Later we wanted to order another drink, but because we had to wait more than half an hour again, got ignored the whole time and when I waved I got a really rude answer “I see you what (swearing) wait a bit” we decided of course to just asked for the bill and leave. We went out for dinner, and the food was good. We sat on the terrace, enjoying a lovely ambiance. However, our experience took a downturn when we received the bill. The waiter had added 3 extra beers that we hadn't ordered, and he tried to convince us that we had. We were 4, and each of us had ordered two beers, making the bill easy to calculate.

The situation became uncomfortable and unpleasant. It's a shame because we really liked the place, and there are other restaurants in the area that we might try in the future. However, the customer service at this establishment was lacking. Furthermore, we noticed that the bathroom area was dirty, and when we asked a few questions to the waitstaff inside, they completely ignored us.
