Everything is a problem at this hotel from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.||No reception to speak of and the staff are at best surly boarding on rude.|I don't think I have ever stayed in a hotel that sells itself as boutique and 4* when they don't greet you when you arrive, they don't offer to take your bags away when you room isn't ready and then don't take the bags up to your room when it is ready. And lest not forget they don't come and tell you when the room is ready. But in the meantime they are happy to sell you trips around the Costa brava, it's like Thomas Cook from the 1980's and look what happened to them.||We were waiting 5 hours for our room and this is nothing to do with the checking out of the previous occupants as when we got our room it never got cleaned before 4pm, sometimes 5, most of the time on request during the 6 nights we stayed at the hotel.| |The room was very nice and is as described on the website. However whilst the soundproofing is good from the busy road it is appalling from the adjacent rooms and the constant slamming of doors made you feel like you were in a uk premier inn made for stag and hen party's. We were on the top floor with less than 10 rooms so god|knows what it must be like on the lower floors.||Housekeeping started very well but then deteriorated very quickly. For example we ended up with less and less coffee pods each day until we ended up with zero. Getting coffee pods was then a problem and took at least an hour to arrive. Other examples of poor housekeeping included the room service was never cleared properly and towels left for one rather the two by the end of the week.||Room service was so slow and whilst the food can be complimented upon it's just not good enough to be waiting over an hour for simple dishes.||Really really poor at any price but especially for €600 a night.||So looking forward to checking out|Tomorrow as another trauma no doubt..||Stay well clear plenty of really good|Hotels in the...
Read moreMy wife and I had an incredible stay at the Borneta during our first trip to Barcelona, and overall our experience was exceptional. Of special note was Guest Liaison Quentin's unyielding desire to be helpful in any way he could - his time, attention, and suggestions truly helped define our stay. The El Borne location is perfect for enjoying the older, less frenetic parts of the city, and the property (including the bar and restaurant) is stylish and modern without being at all stuffy. The only reason I wouldn't give a 10/10 (9/10 for sure) for Overall Experience is that housekeeping had a few stumbles. I would say that about half the nights there, we did not receive turndown service or an adequate restock of towels/toiletries/robes, and the minibar was never restocked unless I specifically asked at the front desk. Our room cost included their "all the works" option (unlimited and free), so it seems reasonable that the drinks and snacks should have been refilled each and every day without any effort from us. Lastly, there was a discrepancy between their web site's stated hours of operation for the pool bar and what we experienced (11pm online vs 10pm in real life). For a city as late-night oriented as Barcelona (at the height of tourist season no less), 10pm seems weirdly early to close up shop, and many guests we spoke to felt the same. But overall, we had a wonderful time and feel lucky to have centered our stay in BCN at the Borneta. Dining and drinking at Volta (the in-house restaurant and bar) was amazing, and our terrace suite (with outdoor shower, a welcome luxury during the sweltering temps of August) was a relaxing retreat from long days and nights out and about. Hotels should be much more than simply a place to shower and sleep, and the Borneta is the definition of a pampering boutique hotel experience. Should we ever return to Barcelona, we would...
