Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Barcelona, there was a small restaurant called Kasa Japo. It was located on C/ de Bergara, 1 in the neighborhood of L'Eixample. It was known for its delicious Japanese cuisine and warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The owner of Kasa Japo, Mr. Suzuki, had always dreamed of owning his own restaurant. He had grown up in Japan, surrounded by the aromas and flavors of his mother's traditional cooking. When he moved to Barcelona, he noticed a lack of authentic Japanese restaurants and saw an opportunity to share his culture and cuisine with the city.
With the help of his wife, Mrs. Suzuki, they opened Kasa Japo in a small corner restaurant on C/ de Bergara. They painted the walls a warm orange color and decorated with traditional Japanese artwork. The menu featured a variety of sushi, ramen, and other popular dishes from Japan.
At first, business was slow. The locals were hesitant to try new flavors and the tourists were more interested in traditional Spanish tapas. But Mr. and Mrs. Suzuki didn't give up. They continued to cook with love and passion, and soon word of mouth spread about their delicious food.
One day, a food critic from a popular magazine stumbled upon Kasa Japo. He was blown away by the flavors and authenticity of the dishes. He wrote a glowing review, and from then on, Kasa Japo became a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Soon, the small corner restaurant could not accommodate the growing number of customers and the Suzukis had to expand their business.
They moved to a larger location on C/ de Bergara, 1, allowing them to welcome more guests and offer more menu options. The new space was beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese elements, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
As Kasa Japo's popularity grew, so did the Suzukis' family. They now had three children, who all helped out in the restaurant after school. The eldest son, Takumi, had a passion for cooking and would often experiment with new dishes, adding an exciting twist to the menu.
Kasa Japo became more than just a restaurant, it became a family business and a beloved part of the community. The Suzukis' hard work and dedication paid off, and they were able to share their love for Japanese cuisine with the city of Barcelona.
And so, Kasa Japo on C/ de Bergara, 1 continued to thrive, serving up delicious food and warm hospitality to all who entered. It was a true testament to the power of following one's dreams and...
Read moreA few weeks ago, our son was away with his grandparents so my wife and I had a lunch date. We try to do that sometimes but, logistically, that's not always easy, as you can imagine. 😅 Even though it was Sunday, she had to work afterward so we looked for something quick and not too heavy, and, most of all, close to where she had to work. Also, at the end of the Summer, after a few weeks away, we didn't want to spend too much 💰. I looked for something in my bucket list and I found Kasa Japo. I walked by that place so many times but I'm not sure why I put it on my list. I think it mainly was because the prices looked affordable. 🤷♂️ Anyway, I had no idea if the food would be good or what the inside part of the venue would look like. And I was not disappointed by the decor! It's stunning, especially for a restaurant in this price range. 🤩 They offer pan-Asian food, despite their name, so we had different types of food: sushi roll, wakame, something that looked like bibimbap, hakao, maguro and 🥑 tartare. Everything was pretty decent, except maybe the sushi roll which was just ok. ✔️ After that, we checked the dessert menu but it looked super random so we decided to have dessert somewhere else (not sure that was our best idea that day, but that's another story). We didn't drink wine and we paid €25 per person. For the type of food, it was ok, although we didn't really eat much. The service was correct. Overall, that was not a bad experience at all but that was not memorable either. I do think Kasa Japo is a pretty solid option for large parties who want to eat Asian food but not necessarily from the same country, though.

Let us be honest—finding a decent Japanese restaurant near Plaça Catalunya that does not feel like a tourist trap is hard. That is where Kasa Japo comes in. It is affordable, well-located, and surprisingly stylish for the price. I have used this place for business meetings and even to greet friends after long trips—and it has never disappointed.
Now, the food. The sashimi is a standout. It is always fresh, served on a bowl of ice that looks like it belongs in a high-end place, not somewhere this budget-friendly. If you are trying to impress someone without maxing out your credit card, this is the move.
The takoyaki? Absolutely worth trying—crispy outside, soft and savory inside. It is one of those dishes you order just to “share,” but somehow end up eating most of it yourself. No regrets.
As for mains, my favorites are the katsudon and beef rice bowls—comfort food at its best. Filling, flavorful, and perfect for when you need something hearty.
The place itself has two floors and this super cool wall that drips water (like an indoor waterfall)—which, by the way, is great for making your business partners think you know all the trendy spots in town.
So yeah, is it the best Japanese food in Barcelona? Probably not. But for the price, the location, and the vibe? It is a solid win. Whether you are catching up with friends or sealing a business deal, Kasa Japo is the kind of spot that will have you coming back.
Pro tip: order extra takoyaki. You will thank...
