This was a really unfortunate and unpleasant experience. We booked to stay here for a 2 night stay in Barcelona yet decided to check out early after the first night to find an alternative hotel - not ideal during such a short city break. Based on our experience, I'd recommend against staying or booking at this hotel.
Firstly, the hotel is in a fantastic location in the centre of Barcelona with a metro station and convenient bus routes directly outside. For a short stay in Barcelona, you can experience the city easily from here. However, this is where the positives end based on our experience.
We arrived early in the day prior to the check-in time, and were able to store our bags away. The hotel is in an old building, so it is not gifted with space. The hotel reception / lobby was slim and small, making it uncomfortable for preparing for the day ahead without access to the room. Staff however were helpful with bags.
When we later checked-in to our room, we were located in the upper-most 5th floor room to the top of the hotel, 2 floors above where the lift stopped (not problematic for us), however it felt like this was truly the forgotten room in the hotel.
The room was tiny, with a low head-height, creating a claustrophobic feel. Some of the decor was nice, however most of the decor felt very old and tired. The bathroom was far too small without any room for manoeuvring. The shower itself was tiny, and it was bizarrely difficult to move and wash in it. Towel rails were in the most useless positions, so one has to resort to putting your towel on the toilet whilst showering. More problematic however was the fact that the shower barely worked, with hot water disappearing within 30 seconds, and water pressure being totally useless. When we called reception, the response we received was that this was normal for the showers in the hotel. This shower was far from normal, or acceptable! Even more concerning was that after 90 minutes of the air conditioning unit being on high power and low temperature, the room hadn't cooled down at all. The air conditioning barely functioned, and with the small room being located at the top of the hotel, the room was hot, stuffy and uncomfortable. As a further point, no toiletries were provided. We felt really disappointed with the room, and all of the above made us feel like we had been placed in the forgotten room which barely gets used / looked after.
When we raised the issues with the hotel receptionist that evening, the initial response wasn't very helpful. We were told that other rooms were not available, despite both the hotel website, and booking.com saying that there were alternative rooms available (one an upgrade, one a downgrade). When we probed this further, the receptionist conceded that the downgrade option was available, yet the upgrade wasn't - this was hard to believe.
We accepted the downgrade purely to sleep in an air conditioned room, however this second room was even smaller, with a small double bed, and a simply a small slither of space to each side of the bed. It was definitely the smallest hotel room I've ever seen. To our relief however, we could move in the shower, the shower was newer and functioned as it should, the air conditioning worked, and toiletries were provided. However, we were still only provided one towel between two people. It was insulting to have been told that the first shower was normal after being given one that now worked as it should. This room was noisy with the loud elevator being operated all through the night and morning, and voices and footsteps were loud from the hallway. Most frustratingly, cleaning staff were shouting outside the door all morning.
The morning's receptionist was much more apologetic, and wanted to arrange a solution for the second night, however we refused and were refunded for the second night, including the difference in downgrading.
Having experienced two rooms, with neither being acceptable, poor room preparation, and sub-standard service on the first night, we would definitely not...
Read moreWe had a short stay at the end of June which started off a bit shaky but ended up being great. When we arrived at the hotel after a super easy Aerobus transfer from BCN, we were informed that the loft suite we had booked had an issue and couldn't be used. We were initially disappointed (as you might expect) but the actions of the hotel staff set the bar high for how a hotel should deal with this sort of issue. We got two regular rooms which were small (to be expected given the location) facing the plaza and given complimentary breakfast for the next morning. On top of that, we returned to our rooms after being out walking for a while and found that staff had put a complimentary bottle of Cava and a platter of sweet treats in each room. These are small gestures but they go a long way, so kudos to the staff!||The rooms were small but comfortable and clean with slippers and bathrobes provided. The beds were comfortable and the AC was effective. I was initially worried about noise from the plaza but we didn't find there was very much noise from the street at all and I am a very light sleeper, easily disturbed. We also didn't find there to be much noise within the hotel itself. Breakfast was fabulous. The location of this hotel cannot be beat: It's right in the thick of central Barcelona, close to La Rambla and the Gothic Quarter and surrounded by restaurants and shopping. Overall, despite our initial disappointment with not being able to avail of the suite, we had a very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to book here again. Once again, the staff at the H10 Catalunya Plaza were excellent, definitely fabulous ambassadors for...
Read moreI booked the hotel for a one-night stay in our whistle stop tour of Barcelona. The hotel was quietly situated 1 minute away from the bus stop for the airport transfer. Perfect! It faces a beautiful water fountain and statue area and from the front you wouldn’t know what was inside. Inside is a beautiful art deco style hotel with gorgeous touches. The staff were extremely helpful, arranging an early check in and a wake up call. Very welcoming and polite also. The lift was beautiful from the outside and felt like something out of a bond movie. Our room was perfect with a balcony overlooking the water fountains to the front. The room was styled beautifully with nespresso coffee, biscuits and water available for use. There were bath robes and slippers available to borrow also and a cute little bathroom bag with essentials. All the soaps and shampoo were rituals collection and smelt great. We couldn’t fault the room at all and the bed was super comfy. Despite being in a busy location, I had a great nights sleep. The gothic quarter is within walking distance and the metro is on the doorstep for further afield. We had an early flight in the morning so didn’t get to sample the breakfast but I would absolutely stay at this beautiful hotel again. I cannot believe it’s not a higher rated hotel on booking...
