La Terraza del Pelai — Restaurant in Barcelona

We saw this place online and all the reviews and pictures looked so good so we decided to go there for lunch. I would like to say the staff was very nice, the food really just wasn’t. We ordered quesadillas and gnocchi al pesto. Neither of us are picky eaters but the quesadilla seemed to only be filled with olive tapenade so you couldn’t possibly taste anything else. Even after attempting to scrape some out of it, you could hardly taste the cheese, which I would expect to be quite prominent in a quesadilla. The gnocchi seemed to be baked (?) instead of cooked which gave it a sort of crispy texture while the pesto was basically non existent. The staff asked if I wanted to order another plate after I stopped eating after two bites, but given the disappointing dishes we had, I didn’t feel like paying for another dish that might not be what we hoped for. Ofcourse a restaurant is by no means obliged to, but I have to say I was sort of expecting not to be charged for one of the dishes or get some sort of compensation, given I only took 2 bites. Service was very slow. We arrived at around 7:55 for our 8pm reservation. We needed to be up and out by 10pm for a later engagement. We ordered our drinks and appetizers right away. However they didn’t arrive for almost an hour after. We ordered the crispy chicken and the nachos and the crispy chicken tasted like fish. We then waited for our entrees which were just as bad, maybe even worse. the gnocchi was somehow burnt while also being overcooked. The center was completely undercooked while the exterior was burnt. With the food arriving at around 9:40 we rushed to make it out by 10pm. Drinks were okay but some were way stronger than others and there wasn’t any...

We came back to this hotel as we are Coeliac and particularly loved the pool area and the Nachos for lunch . This year they have changed chef and the Nachos were simply awful . The guacamole was nice but we had tasteless yoghurt on very boring corn chips so they could be made vegan . Big NO NO from us 🥲 The staff were lovely though and let us choose something else which was much appreciated . Note to chef….. if it ain’t broken don’t try and fix it .
