Exceptional Grill Dining at Leña Barcelona – A Culinary Masterpiece
Leña Barcelona, the latest venture by Chef Dani García, is a fire-grilled culinary sanctuary that lives entirely up to its reputation. Nestled within the Grand Hyatt, the restaurant blends traditional Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine with the striking elegance of an open grill and ember-focused cooking .
⸻
What Stood Out: • The quality is top-notch. Dishes are crafted with precision, balance, and intense flavors that make you want to “lick your fingers” . • The grilled cod stood out as “utter perfection” — among the best fish dishes in recent memory at around €32 . • Signature highlights include the mini pretzel‑bun burgers with house‑made secret “bull” sauce, steak tartare with foie, smoked beef pretzel, and yakipinchos—true embodiments of the grill-forward philosophy.
⸻
Ambience & Service: The dining space is dramatic and modern—stark lighting, sleek metal and wood design, and a sensorial allure that feels more upscale lounge than traditional steakhhouse . The open kitchen brings the flame-grilling process into full view, heightening the sensory experience with the smell and sight of embers at work. Service strikes a polished yet approachable tone—a seamless blend of warmth and professionalism
⸻
Why It Deserves 5 Stars: • Innovative and bold grilling techniques that elevate meat and seafood. • Signature dishes that impress—from flame-roasted avocado and leeks to grilled artichokes and house specials. • Elegant yet primal design; the space and energy are unforgettable. • Thoughtfully curated drink list and cocktails that pair beautifully with the charred flavors.

Read moreAvoid this place. We chose it as we were in the Grand Hyatt and it was convenient. A lousy chef-branded restaurant who got a Michelin star 6 years ago and has expanded to multiple locations, but apparently has lost its touch in doing so. Service terrible, drinks hadn’t even hit the table and the server showed up 3 times for the order which we hadn’t had time to review the menu. Nobody wants to feel pressured to order when at a fine dining establishment. It’s a steakhouse and they couldn’t even tell us if the beef tenderloin was a filet mignon (ie. Cooked steak) or whether it was a whole tenderloin that was grilled and sliced. They are two very different things so we opted for a porterhouse. We ordered the porterhouse medium (my preference and my wife is pregnant so she cannot eat raw beef) which is a warm red/pink center and the steak showed up purple which is rare. They were shocked that we were not ok with it and then were patronized by the chef’s in the background, let alone any management presence to apologize or reassure as that we are correct. They then offered to cook two filet’s after acknowledging they actually had them, which showed up well done and I don’t think my dog would have eaten it they were so well done (no pink). Chef’s visibly dismayed at our request for a medium steak and clearly a lack of experience here as we were not asking for a hockey puck. Wine was the only upside of this dinner. They need an education on table side service, education of cuts/temperatures of meat, and ultimately some humility in serving what customers request without being ridiculed behind our backs which we watched. I should have taken some photos. I offered to pay for what we had consumed and was embarrassed by the...
Read moreLet’s start with me being excited for the Lena’s restaurant to be opened up at the GH. Came from Australia for a short holiday and keen to try the place out.
By seeing the photos (one with flash and other without the flash) of the steak I had was nothing but pure disappointment. First round came out and was so shocked that the chef couldn’t see the rawness as he or she was slicing it up. My request for the steak tonight was just medium. Waitress was very respectful and understanding which I understand that people can make mistakes as we are all humans.
Came the second round, another shock happened. New batch of steak that was sliced as well and couldn’t even see the rawness of the inside. It was cooked to rare not medium as requested. Waitress took the plate again and have told him to let the chef know to cook it longer please. 3rd round came and that was when I gave up as the chef was clueless. Cut all the raw bits out and ate whatever I could on the edges and gave up completely when I saw more raw. Waste of money and time for sure.
If the owner is reading this, what could I say, if you are a three Michelin star chef and you teach your chefs how to cook but they managed to do this badly is astonishing.
Positive side, the burger slider was excellent. Definitely recommend it to everyone. The chips were a 50/50 but couldn’t finish it as the steak were taking long to be fixed and just left it to go cold.
Lena’s Barcelona gotta do better and thanks for the...
