Extreme mixed feelings about this place; I will say the positives first. Without a reservation, the hostess sat us right away at the bar, which ended up being great because of the amazing service by all of the bartenders. I wish I caught their names, but they were helpful and kind throughout the whole night. All of the cocktails/mocktail we had were great, as well as the housemade bread, ceviche, and oysters. When it comes to taste, I had nothing to complain about.
Now, the unpleasant moments: the waiter serving our food was consistently trying to upsell AND rushing us. I asked for recommendations, to which he only recommended the most expensive items. This is fine, because I did enjoy everything, but it felt pushy. Then, after saying no thank you to the bread, he kept recommending it saying it was great. We had already come from dinner and were full (being seated at the bar for this exact reason, too) but after his persistent push, I specifically asked for one order of it, just to get a little taste. While we were still working on our food and drinks, he came by multiple times trying to clear our plates. And at the end of the meal, I noticed we were charged for two orders of the bread, which I asked about. The waiter said one bread is two orders. When I asked why he didn't explain this before, he just WALKED OFF. No explanation, no returning to us to get our bill. HE WALKED OFF AND IGNORED US the rest of the night. I had to grab a different waiter to ask about this matter again. Eventually, they took the bread off of our bill (all I asked was to be charged for one order), but I cannot say I stepped out of the restaurant feeling good. Overall, the weird service/vibes from the specific waiter ruined our, otherwise good, experience at Maymanta. I hope no one else has to experience this...
Read moreIt's a beautiful restaurant. The menu (in english) was a little confusing, especially in the seafood main section. Eventually, the waitress had to explain that they didn't have most items and basically could only do filets and this traditional peruvian fish dish (wrapped in leaf), which we ordered. We asked for suggestions on the appetizers and did go back and forth on our selections. At the end, we were clear that we'd order the grilled ceviche INSTEAD OF the octopus ceviche. Somehow the octopus came to us as well. We didn't say anything, and the octopus was underwhelming. However, the grilled ceviche was excellent. It's so memorable that I can't wait to go have it again. The fish was perfect and the flavors went with it very well. Then started the long wait for the main dish (fish wrapped in leaf). It had to be at least 30-40 minutes. At one point, it was getting a little ridiculous. If it does take that long to cook, we should be warned ahead of time. By the time it came out, we were so hungry that we just devoured it all quickly. I think it was good, but I don't even remember much of it. We got the chocolate dessert. It was truly great, and the custom made ceramic bowl is very beautiful.
Basically, I would go back for that grilled ceviche and the chocolate dessert. The small things dampened the experience. I hope they can iron out the kinks soon, especially the...
Read moreWe had a very bad experience at Maymanta, which is unfortunate because the food was great, the ambiance was lovely, and our waiter was a true gentleman. We felt bad for him, as he was clearly ashamed of what happened. Unfortunately, the management that night didn’t meet the standard you would expect from a place like this. Everything was going well, and we were having a great time until a very drunk guy approached our table three times, aggressively threatening and yelling. Despite this, they allowed him to stay, so we decided to pay the check and leave. We didn’t know who he was, and we had no prior issues with him directly; he was simply drunk and loud. He had been asked to quiet down before because nobody around him could have a conversation. Although he was moved away from our table, the situation repeated itself. The staff apologized, and we understood the first time, but after two more incidents of him yelling at our table, it became unacceptable. Apologies are just words after the first time. You would expect a higher standard from a place like this. What a...
