Santamadre Carn, peix i marisc — Restaurant in Barcelona

Last Saturday, I had an extremely disappointing experience at Santamadre Restaurant de tapes. Carns, peix i marisc. I arrived around 3:45 PM, only to be informed that the kitchen was closed and they were no longer serving, despite their operating hours indicating service until 5:00 PM. The weather outside was terrible (day before marathon), with pouring rain, and I was accompanied by my two young children, an 8-month-old baby and a 2-year-old. When I asked the staff member present, likely the manager, if we could stay for just a few minutes while I found another place to eat and shelter my children from the rain, he outright refused. Even faced with the challenging situation I was in, he insisted we leave immediately and expose ourselves to the rain, instead of offering any form of assistance or minimal understanding. I was shocked by the lack of empathy and consideration displayed by the employee of this restaurant. Excellent quality food and equally great service. Would very strongly recommend the grilled black pork, easily the best we had in Barcelona - cooked to perfection. Bacalao, squid with broccoli sauce, and cheesecake also really great. The quality of cooking and ingedients is at a level that I think you could order anything and it would be great. The two guys working there that we talked to were both great - friendly and welcoming, knowledgeable about the food and wine, and spoke great English. You could easily share three dishes and have a drink each for c€20-30pp, which for this quality of food is good value in a busy area like this. Restaurant is a few minutes walk from the archaeology museum and near the steps up to the botanical Gardens and art museum. Not in a street you would expect to have a great restaurant, but we'll worth going out of your way to eat at. Will definitely go again if...

What a beautiful hidden gem off the beaten path, where you feel the warmth of welcome from the minute you step in the door. The service is exceptional, quick, attentive, friendly and genuinely warm.

The ambiance is warm and cozy with a touch of elegance! Great spot for a romantic dinner and equally fantastic for a family gathering.

Hats off to the chefs, you can tell a lot of love and care goes into not only their presentation but the actual flavors of the dishes as well! The ingredients while clean, dance on your tongue, the textures perfectly balanced and the overall experience phenomenal, leaving you full, happy and satisfied.
