El Changarrito — Restaurant in Barcelona

Nine years ago during a 2-week stay in Barcelona's Poble Sec neighborhood, we discovered this Mexican restaurant. We are so happy to report that the restaurant continues today! Outside of Mexico it is very difficult to find authentic Mexican food. We have spent many, many months in Mexico's heartland and sampled its many regional dishes. Awful experience - overpriced, small portioned and tasteless food, the staff was drunk and rude, and the restaurant had cockroaches in it. I think they especially treat foreigners poorly and have a special menu for non-natives. It may take 20 minutes to make you a very small taco with no meat in it and then be very rude at the same time. The place isn't fabulous but the host really does. Finds time to answer questions and make you feel welcomed. The place is very clean and the host is attentive to detail.
