The right place to try basque food? For a starter we had the seasonal vegetable (cauliflower; 6.5€). The veggie itself was cooked well but soaked with too much oil. For mains we had what seemed to be the signature dish of the restaurant - the bacalao (cod fish; 12 euros€). The fish was well-made and had a tasty sauce that made it the most satisfying savory dish. We also had the anchovies soup (9€), which was okay, but the soup was very salty. For dessert we tried the basque cake (5€) which was comforting and very delicious. Overall I’m not sure it’s the best place to try basque food in Bilbao. It does seem like the food is fresh and with good intentions, but the dishes are flawed in basic terms (like excessive salt or oil). Interestingly the best thing we tried was actually the cake.

Fish soup without fish. Cold Cod -- Losing combination!!! I came Saturday and had the sea bass and paella and it was delicious. They are closed on Mondays so I was waiting anxiously to go there. The fish stew had no fish in it. It was a bean soup with a piece of beef or pork. The cod piri piri was cold. I told the waitress. She responded "it is hot" I told her the center of the fish was cold. She came back with the sauce bubbling hot but the fish was rubbery and warm. I realized it was not cooked. I told the woman that I Would pay for the food but the fish was cold. Her response was "Que pena!" Which means "too bad but give us our money abyway!

I’ve eaten here twice in 2 days. One of those rare establishments that does everything right. Relaxed interior full of character, rockstar staff, and incredible traditional food with no fuss. Over my 2 visits I ordered the pil pil, the rabbit stew, the green peppers, the mixed salad, and the flan. All delicious. The bread they give to mop up the stew is fresh and most likely baked that same day if not a few hours beforehand. The kind barman gave me a delicious sweet shot when I paid. I cannot recommend this place enough for traditional food with a great vibe at a very reasonable price.

Recommended by the UK ' Guardian' before I arrived, it stated it was run by a euskalduna family serving traditional recipes. Cycling la Camino by myself , I did not mind being in a small corner table in this tradional bar, as I could see the whole of Bilbao come and go. The portions are huge , so be careful you don't over order. I had a green salad first, then this huge rabbit stew. Lecker Lunch on Saturday was very busy. I returned Sunday but dinner was quieter. 10 /10 for food, service and ambience

All the food was delicious during my trip to Spain. Except here ... No croquet, no flavor. I thought the potatoes were in the microwave. The chef didn't know how to fry them crisply. And the fish was good to eat. It was good because it didn't taste anything. The service was worse than the food. Don't judge roughly! Like me, there are a lot of people who just go to the reviews, and you'll see that when you go out you included the bread you didn't eat in the receipt.

A very busy place which the staff managed very well. Nice and clean and basic layout. The food was traditional and being a Vegetarian the choice isn't great, and frankly looked really bland on the plate. But it was quite good with garlic and salt and pepper. Pleasantly surprised. Would I go back? Yes I would but for a quick bite/pit stop rather than a food experience. 3.5 stars would be a fair appraisal, above average but not great.
