Yandiola Jatetxea — Restaurant in Bilbao

It was my birthday celebration and we were recommended by the hotel to go to Yandiola. When we entered the restaraunt we were rudely greeted and felt very unwelcome. The decor and ambience of the restaraunt was beautiful and careful thought had been placed in the presentation to the eye. The service throughout the night was prompt for example: by filling up our wine glasses. A few of the staff were unfriendly and rude carrying a superiority complex that made the overall feeling unwelcoming and unnecessary. We chose the set menu and the food from the kitchen was tasty. Visual presentation as well as flavours, textures and consistency was excellent.

I was thoroughly impressed with every facet of my experience. I was warmly greeted, seated promptly and received highest quality service. I must mention Ali and Raquel who were most attentive. La Terraza de Yandiola: donde lo difícil no es subir… es querer bajar.

Hay sitios que te lo ponen fácil, y luego está la Terraza del Yandiola, ese rincón secreto que parece sacado de una escape room deluxe. Primero entras por un pasillito que parece que te va a llevar a un trastero, subes por un ascensor que no sabes si vas a una azotea o a Narnia… y ¡boom!, aterrizas en una terraza con vistas de postal al skyline de Bilbao.

Aquí no vienes por el servicio (los camareros tienen una relación bastante relajada con el concepto de “atender”), sino por la música en directo, los cócteles bien presentados y la sensación de que podrías estar en Berlín, pero sin perder la esencia bilbaína.

¿Carta de cócteles? Muy top. ¿Café bien hecho? Más que aprobado. ¿Ambiente? Chill, adulto, con DJ en directo, sin niños dando vueltas (cosa poco habitual y altamente valorada). ¿Tumbonas y sofás para dejarte caer y mirar las estrellas mientras te tomas algo con clase? Pues sí, también eso.

Lo mejor: puedes mantener una conversación sin gritar, sin empujones, sin prisas. Aquí el tiempo se estira, el momento se alarga y la copa sabe mejor porque no tienes que correr.

¿Lo recomiendo? Absolutamente. Eso sí, ven con GPS emocional porque entre el acceso laberíntico y los camareros en modo “modo avión”, necesitarás un poco de paciencia. Pero una vez allí, es muy probable que no...
