RESTAURANTE LA VEGANESA — Restaurant in Cádiz

First of all: this is not a vegan only place, it has several vegetarian dishes though, which was (supposedly going to be) a rare treat for one of my friends who is vegetarian and finds it hard to find some decent options in Andalucía. vegetarian risotto “con muchissima verdura”, taste was good but rather dry but especially: it did NOT have ANY vegetables at all! Probably only in the stock/broth it was cooked in, parece que las verduras aún estaban en la huerta jejeje 😳😅. As we had somewhere to go, decided not to ask about it but till this day, a couple of weeks later “muchissima verdura” has become a go to expression for us to have a good laugh.

We had lunch here and really liked it! Two of us are vegan, one vegetarian, and I’m an omnivore. We had chorizo with potatoes because the couple next to us recommended it. The Moroccan soup is a lentil soup with spices. Pear tatin: a fun twist on the French classic. For dessert, an orange cake with a hint of anise in the frosting, reminiscent of carrot cake. That might have been the best part of the meal. Only downsides were the bread and coffee. Otherwise, creative vegan dishes at a cute place on a nice side street, with a friendly and helpful server. I had such a lovely experience here. The food was absolutely delicious! Honestly some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had. Everything tasted so good and full of flavor, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the dishes.

The atmosphere was really sweet and relaxed, with a cozy, welcoming vibe. And the waitress was so kind and helpful – it just made the whole experience even better.
