This place was just a delight! It’s hard to know where to start! But I loved it so much I extended my stay from 2 to 7 nights which is the longest I’ve stayed in one hostel or area on my travels. Nick the owner is lovely and has literally thought of everything you could need in a hostel stay. The hostel itself is very clean, including the kitchen which I cooked in most days, and is not something I usually like to do in hostel kitchens. The rooms are super clean too, I stayed in both the female and mixed dorms and they were cleaned multiple times a day, not that it needed it! Theres loads of places to hangout out or work etc, the rooftop bar is great too, and there’s an activity held by staff most nights. There are places to chill if you prefer downtime too! It’s a beautiful building but the staff really are the heart of this place! They are all so cheerful and friendly, always ready to help with advice about day trips etc (I’d really recommend the bike ride). They also get involved in socialising too, they’re all friends which means there’s always someone to socialise with if you want to and they facilitate other people socialising too which makes it easier! They run family meals often on the roof and put on a free breakfast every morning, the food is delicious and it’s another good way to meet people. They also put on a few different activities such as beach volley ball whilst i was there! And other paid things like yoga and surfing was available daily! The location couldn’t be better, you’re within walking distance of everything you could need, and they will explain public transport if you want to go a bit further. It’s a few minutes walk from multiple gorgeous sunset spots too, I think I only missed the sunset once or twice this trip! One of the lovely guys working there, Albert, even took us to see the sunrise one morning. I love all of the local beaches, it’s super easy to find good restaurants too. I was really gutted to leave and will definitely be back, thanks so...
Read moreThis was a lovely stay whilst attending a local dance festival in the area. I stayed in the all-female dorm which had an en-suite bathroom, locks on the dorm door, lockers with key access both in the room and downstairs, a personal drawer, a night light, access to electrical outlets, full-size mirror by the bed, a smaller one on the bed and privacy curtains around 2/3 of the bed.
This establishment has friendly staff, a homely feel, wooden racks to dry wet wash clothes/towels and a cheap rooftop bar with a hammock (cash only though) plus free breakfast, ability to hire beach towers for a euro and a free beach parasol for hire as well as (paid) daily dinner and activity offerings.
However, there were a few issues. The first being areas around the grout in the bathroom had mould on them, probably a ventilation issue as moisture can’t escape the bathroom. The cleaner came in often which is great, however, she often left the door open when the whole point of a female-only room is privacy especially as there were religious girls that cover staying in the hostel. :/
I woke up one morning to find a male member of staff in the room with the cleaner which was annoying as there was no notification of this/knocking on top of this I heard them gossiping about me in Spanish. Extremely unimpressed with the unprofessionalism displayed there.
One of the volunteers (blond man) was quite rude towards me answering perfectly valid questions as if I’m stupid and being generally slightly annoying.
It would be nice if the privacy curtain covered the whole bed instead of 2/3 but apart from that my stay was pleasant with reception staff being very accommodating letting me shower before check-in on my first day, telling charming anecdotes about Argentine tango lessons with crazy Frenchmen and offering to store my flip flops at the front desk when I had to rush out.
I would most likely stay here again especially for the...
Read moreI really enjoyed my trip in the casa Caracol ! The location is beautiful and there's a warm atmosphere. I wish I could put 5 stars but I had a problem with one of the volunteer the last night. I saw her sleeping in the rooftop (in a hammock) this night while I knew it was booked by friends with whom I talked just before. I entered the place and wanted to wait for them there since we cannot stay somewhere else, but when I entered she directly got upset at me telling me I woke her up, so I tried to tell her that anyway she would be waken up by my friends who were about to come back and who sleeps in this place, but she cut me off and directly start to be upset and threat me that she will snitch to the reception that I was trespassing. I tried to explain that I just wanted to tell her that she was actually sleeping in a reserved bed and she couldn't have known it wasn't me, so the first thing she did was yell at someone coming without knowing if I was sleeping there or not. I think it's no way to talk to a client and the next day I learned that the client that was suppose to sleep in the hammock ended up sleeping on the bench because she pretend to be asleep and they didn't want to wake her up because they're nice. I learned from others costumers that it wasn't the first time there was a problem with her. One morning she put the music so loud it was hard to hear ourselves and talk with clients and when someone asked to get the volume a bit down she acted upset and insists on the need of listening to it before she finally put it a bit down. Then once there were no more dishwashing liquid and she did the dishes without it (with only water which it truly disgusting) and, in short, she is just being rude. The following day, I saw that she was the one who trained the new volunteer and clearly I don't think it's a good idea. Bad habits can be pass by if there's no management of them and i genuinely dont think...
