I stayed there for two nights in mid-June 2010 and had no problems. The price isn't bad (60€/night for a double) and the location is phenomenal--you're maybe 200m from the cathedral, and also very close to the train and bus station.
Rooms very spare but very clean (my TV didn't work, but who goes to Cadiz to watch TV?). No AC, but the ceiling fan did a great job of cooling down the room--and it was in the 90s when I was there. The only window opens to the interior patio, which means zero view but also minimal street noise for those who like being able to sleep at night. The owner is a total grouch and gets grouchier if you try to pay with a credit card, though they do take plastic. Luckily for me, I speak Spanish and happened to have enough euros with me, so he was marginally less cranky after that.
I suspect there are friendlier places with more personality that charge less (and that fill up faster, which is how I landed here). Sadly a family member booked this establishment purely on price. The drains smell due to incorrectly capped toilets, the whole hotel is a echo chamber. It's literally a cathedral of echoes and a giant whispering gallery.Anyone talking in the building and you can hear it in your room. Adjoining room to yours takes a leak in the night you can hear the urine hit the water. The bed belongs to a previous era of history to my mind the Spanish inquisition as they are instruments of torture. Reasonable location but that's it. Noisy smelly hell hole.
